2. My Adaptation
• I am going to adapt an album into a TV series
something that has not been done before. I
am going to use 5 Seconds of Summer’s self
entitled album as the basis of the show. I am
adapting it into this because, there has been
nothing like this before and I believe that this
album has a good structured narrative to it.
3. Genre and Narrative
• The main genre for this TV show will be Romance as it
will be about 2 peoples love for each other. The sub-
genre will be teen drama as there are many dramatic
episodes I will make from the album.
• The narrative will start with the boys love at first sight
but she is already in a relationship, during the middle,
the girl splits up with her boyfriend because the boy
persuaded her to leave him, this resolves her to fall in
love with the boy, however the boy is leaving the
country so the girl must confess her love for him.
4. Constraints and Opportunity
• As this is an album there has not been, to my
knowledge, any albums that have be adapted into a TV
series, therefore this is a risk, because this could be the
first of its kind. Also to do this I am going to need to
buy rights from 5 Seconds of Summer and have
permission to make this into my own interpretation of
the album.
• An Opportunity for this will be as this has the potential
to be the first of its kind to be changed from an album
to a TV show, if successful, this opens up the door for
other TV shows to be based around an album.
5. Target Audience
• The core target audience will be fans of 5 Seconds Of Summer aged
between 12-21, they will be both males and females. This
demographic would enjoy my adaptation they would like the 5
Seconds Of Summer album meaning they would want to see how it
is when it’s changed into a TV series. They will be in social grouping
E as they are in education and will have disposable income due to
having no bills to pay, they will be living at home with parents or
guardians. The additional audience will be 25-35 year olds, they will
be females who are interested in teen dramas and romances like
Jane The Virgin, they will be in social group C1 & C2, they will be
people, that go to university or have a job, therefore will have
to prioritise their money. They will live in a rented apartment, with
this they will pay their TV license.
6. Cinematic Ideas
• What makes my idea distinctive is that the TV
show will be based around an album, this has
never been done before so this makes my idea
unique. The main part of the TV show will be
starring Luke Mitchell, he is known for starring
in the soap Home and Away and Talulah Riley
who starred in Inception and Thor.
8. • My storyboard Extract shows the opening in a
club, we have 2 establishing shots in and out
the club, we then track in on a boy and girl.
They are having a conversation near the bar
while music is being played in the background,
this shows the first meeting of the people that
are going to star in the whole series.
