1. Unit 4 – Pre-Production Lauren Whyte

Why are Pre-Production Processes Necessary?
When creating aproduction, it is important to include each part of the pre-production process
and understand why it is vital to the film’s success.Ifthe pre-production process did not occur
for a film, this would lead to a mess production process, that is not effective or efficient. The
paperwork for the production would not be completed and would therefore make the process
more time consuming due to a lack of structure, and potentially even lead to legal problems
and disputes. If this was to occur, the filming of the production would not even be able to
occur due to the inability to understand the idea behind the film. Budgeting is one of the most
important parts of the pre-production process, and without the film would not be feasible.
This is due to the budget enabling the ability to rent or purchase equipment, cast actors and
actresses, rent accommodation or filmsets and allows for health and safety to be considered
at all times. As a result, the pre-production process is vital to keeping the production running
as smoothly as possible. The pre-production process also enables the producers to pre-empt
any problems that may occur by generating risk-assessments and contingency plans. This also
leads to a smoother process that is farless time consuming for everyone involved. The process
alsoallows for the purpose of the movie to be effective,by making sure that the story is being
told in the correct way, by the best people / talent. To conclude, the pre-production process
is completely necessary in order to produce a production. If this process was not to occur, the
film would not be made, as there would be no script for the talent to read from, or any
storyline at all. There would also be no equipment to produce the film, or edit it later on.
