2. The Hamlet of Uniondale is a suburb
of Long Island located in central
Nassau County.
The area is approximately 2.7
square miles and is bordered
by Garden City, Hempstead, East
Meadow and Roosevelt. The major
roadways are Hempstead Tnpk,
Uniondale Ave, Front Street and
Jerusalem Ave.
3. The main attractions of Uniondale consist of Museum
Row, where you can explore the Cradle of Aviation
and Air and Space Museum
5. Just around the corner you can see a New York
Islanders Hockey Game or your favorite Musical
Artists performing at the Nassau Veterans
Memorial Coliseum.

8. Uniondale has two major colleges.
Nassau Community College is a
State University of New York
(SUNY) school and the largest
single-campus community college
in the state, NCC has a
remarkable mix of quality
academics, activities, athletics,
arts, and one of the best Associate
Degree Nursing Programs in the
country.
9. Hofstra University’s beautiful
campus offers students about 140
undergraduate and about 150
graduate programs, in Liberal Arts
and Science, Business,
Communication, Education, Health
and Human Services and Honors
Studies, as well as a School of Law
and School of Medicine.
10. The Uniondale Union Free School District consists of five elementary
schools, two Middle schools and one High School. While driving into the
High School I was stopped by a police officer at the gate. He allowed
me to continue as I explained my community project and I noticed a
sign as I entered through the gate. Police presence is a necessary and
continual occurrence at this School. There was another police officer at
the gate exiting the school.
11. The local library can be found on Uniondale Avenue
in the “Down town” area of Uniondale.
12. There are two fire houses. One is the main
headquarters. The members are all volunteers.
14. Wal-Mart Department store and
Shop Rite Grocery Stores are the
larger shopping centers. You can
also find the local fish market,
convenience stores like the
Uniondale Grocery and 7 – eleven
as well as a community
pharmacy, in town.

16. Uniondale’s residential area consists of
approximately 6,225 households, mainly
single family homes, which may or may not
have private apartments within. The median
combined income for a household in
Uniondale is $61,410. This community is
extremely diverse. The population is made
up of 7,330 white residents, 12,984 black
residents of African American and
Caribbean decent, 9,779 Hispanic, 716
Asian, 335 Indian, 44 Hawaiian and 5,683
mixed nationalities. There is an equal male
to female ratio. I found the homes to be an
interesting mix of old and new constructions.
Some of the landscapes are beautifully
groomed and others are neglected and may
possibly be abandoned.
17. The diversity of the population also
includes a diversity of religious
denominations. There are Catholic,
Baptist, Methodist, Jehovah Witness,
Episcopalian, Apostolic and some
nondenominational places of worship. I
did not notice any Jewish temples in the
area.
18. I took note of a number
of Day Care facilities
scattered throughout
the town. Some of
them were in private
homes and others were
in churches and
professional buildings.
19. The neighborhood restaurants
reflect the multi – culture and
ethnicity of the community. There
are Caribbean, Dominican,
El Salvadorian, Italian, and
American cuisines to satisfy your
hunger.
20. The community health services range from one small
walk- in medical center, various private practice physicians,
two dental offices, Rota care free clinic, and A. Holly Patterson
extended care facility for the aged.
