Topic: Simple Present Tense
I. Context
There are 39 pupils in Grade 6 Borgia‚ it composed of 23 girls and 16 boys. The class is grouped
heterogeneously. Some of them are auditory‚ visual‚ and kinesthetic learners. To meet their different
learning preferences‚ varied activities will be provided to cater their different learning needs.
Pupils were involved in a community and aware’ of what’s happening in their surroundings. They
probably observed other people like playing in the park‚ praying in the church‚ eating in the canteen‚ etc.
With these‚ they will be able to describe the image/action provided by their teacher and will share it to the
class.
II. Objectives
At the end of the discussion‚ the pupils will be able to:
A. Cognitive/ Psychomotor
1. define simple present tense;
2. identify the correct verb tenses in oral and written activity;
3. describe the image using simple present tense by writing a short story and;
B. Affective
1. appreciate the importance of using correct verb tenses.

Prelection
The pupil will describe the situation using simple present tense.
1. Say/Ask:
Good morning‚ Grade 6 Borgia!
How are you?
Did you eat your snacks?
What do you usually do before you go here?
2. 2. Let’s do Charade!
The class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group will choose a representative
to ACT the word they pick and the remaining group will guess what their representatives
acted. The first group who will get 5 points will be declared a winner.

How do we call those words?
The Present Principle is formed by adding –ing to the verb. It is used with the
different forms of the verb be (am‚ is‚ are‚ was‚ were‚ has been‚ had‚ been‚ will be‚ shall
be) to express continuing actions or conditions. This is also called the progressive form.
Let the pupils identify the Present Principle found in the sentence.
1. See baby riding easily.
2. I saw Rabert driving skillfully.
3. I can hear him singing a song.
4. I saw the child kicking the ball.
5. We saw a man leading.
Present a picture and they will describe the image using the Present
Participle.
Introduce the topic and discuss.
Present image with a caption then let the students choose the correct present
tense.

Verbs have four principal parts which are the present‚ the present particle‚ the past
and the past particle.
a) The present is used for the present tense and the future tense.
b) The present participle expresses on going action.
c) The past is used for the past tense.
d) The past participle is used for perfect tenses and in sentences passive voice.

4. Present a sample word to the class. Let a volunteer to fill in the missing part of the
chart with the present participle.
5. Choose the correct alternative for each situation by encircling the word.

4. Then‚ the class will listen to the song and check. They will then sing the song
together.

7. The teacher will emphasize that using correct tenses allows you to express clearly the
time relationships among your ideas. When deciding which verb tense to use, aim for
consistency, simplicity, and clarity.

VI. Action/Assignment
Present a story and critique the verb tenses used. Then identify the error in every
sentence and change it into correct tense. If there’s no error‚ don’t change anything.
Write your answer in ¼ sheet of paper.
Example:
Bonus no. 1: ‘are’ is error. Then change the ‘are’ to correct tense. The correct verb tense
is ‘is’.

5. By three. The teacher will show three pictures and then they will choose one to make a
story. Then, the student will look at the picture for two minutes and will come up a7 to 10
sentence story using the simple present tense. This will be written on a ½ sheet of paper. They
will be given 10 minutes to finish the story.
The two last threes’ who will past the paper will share their story in front.
