Topic: Simple Present Tense
I. Context
There are 39 pupils in Grade 6 Borgia‚ it composed of 23 girls and 16 boys. The class is grouped
heterogeneously. Some of them are auditory‚ visual‚ and kinesthetic learners. To meet their different
learning preferences‚ varied activities will be provided to cater their different learning needs.
Pupils were involved in a community and aware’ of what’s happening in their surroundings. They
probably observed other people like playing in the park‚ praying in the church‚ eating in the canteen‚ etc.
With these‚ they will be able to describe the image/action provided by their teacher and will share it to the
class.
II. Objectives
At the end of the discussion‚ the pupils will be able to:
A. Cognitive/ Psychomotor
1. define simple present tense;
2. identify the correct verb tenses in oral and written activity;
3. describe the image using simple present tense by writing a short story and;
B. Affective
1. appreciate the importance of using correct verb tenses.

IV. Learning Experience
Student’s Learning Activities
Prelection
The pupil will describe the situation using simple present tense.
1. Say/Ask:
 Good morning‚ Grade 6 Borgia!
 How are you?
 Did you eat your snacks?
 What do you usually do before you go here?
2. Let’s do Charade!
The class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group will choose a representative
to ACT the word they pick and the remaining group will guess what their representatives
acted. The first group who will get 5 points will be declared a winner.
Hidden Words: Reading‚ Combing‚ Sleeping‚ Shouting‚ Eating‚ Walking‚ Sitting‚
Loving‚ Running‚ Clapping‚ Jumping‚ Driving‚ Waving‚ Crying‚ Dancing‚ Singing‚
Playing‚ Knocking‚ Praying‚ Laughing‚ Flying‚ Writing.
Note (Optional): To maintain silence‚ encourage the pupils to keep quiet‚ if they fail‚
their score will be deducted 1 point.
3. Say/Ask:
 What did you feelin the activity?
 Can you enumerate those words we encountered in the activity? Give one
each.
 How do we call those words?
The Present Principle is formed by adding –ing to the verb. It is used with the
different forms of the verb be (am‚ is‚ are‚ was‚ were‚ has been‚ had‚ been‚ will be‚ shall
be) to express continuing actions or conditions. This is also called the progressive form.
 Let the pupils identify the Present Principle found in the sentence.
1. See baby riding easily.
2. I saw Rabert driving skillfully.
3. I can hear him singing a song.
4. I saw the child kicking the ball.
5. We saw a man leading.
 Present a picture and they will describe the image using the Present
Participle.
 Introduce the topic and discuss.
 Present image with a caption then let the students choose the correct present
tense.
They travel/travels every Sunday.
He go/goes to school by bike.
People sleep/sleeps at night.
Verbs have four principal parts which are the present‚ the present particle‚ the past
and the past particle.
a) The present is used for the present tense and the future tense.
b) The present participle expresses on going action.
c) The past is used for the past tense.
d) The past participle is used for perfect tenses and in sentences passive voice.
 Review
4. Present a sample word to the class. Let a volunteer to fill in the missing part of the
chart with the present participle.
5. Choose the correct alternative for each situation by encircling the word.
Present Present Participle
1. Blow
2. Push
3. Smile
4. Shake
5. Close
 Then‚ the class will listen to the song and check. They will then sing the song
together.
6. Say/Ask:
 Did you enjoy the song?
 How was your experience in the activity?
 What do you think will happen if wrong verb tenses used in the song?
7. The teacher will emphasize that using correct tenses allows you to express clearly the
time relationships among your ideas. When deciding which verb tense to use, aim for
consistency, simplicity, and clarity.
8. Review
 What are the four verb tenses?
 In your own definition‚ what is Present tense? Present Participle?
 Why correct verb tenses importance?
V. Reflection
How will you apply your learnings in using correct verb tenses in real life situation?
VI. Action/Assignment
Present a story and critique the verb tenses used. Then identify the error in every
sentence and change it into correct tense. If there’s no error‚ don’t change anything.
Write your answer in ¼ sheet of paper.
Example:
Bonus no. 1: ‘are’ is error. Then change the ‘are’ to correct tense. The correct verb tense
is ‘is’.
Answer:Hank is a cowboy.
VII. Evaluation
Who is he? Where is he? What does he do?
(1) Hank are a cowboy. (2) He live on a farm. (3) He has a horse named Ginger. (4) Hank
love Ginger.(5) He ride Gingereveryday.(6) Sometimesthey walk slowly, and sometimes
they run fast. (7) They always have a good time.
(8) Ginger are Hank's horse. (9) She are light brown. (10) Her tail and mane is dark brown.
(11) She is three years old. (12) She live in the stable by the house.
(13) Ginger wait for Hank every morning. (14) She enjoy their time together. (15) Often,
(16) Hank give her apples. (17) After long rides, Hank always washes and brushes Ginger.
(18) He usuallybrusheshertail.(19) Thenhe give herfoodand freshwater.(20)Gingerlove
Hank.
By three. The teacher will show three pictures and then they will choose one to make a
story. Then, the student will look at the picture for two minutes and will come up a7 to 10
sentence story using the simple present tense. This will be written on a ½ sheet of paper. They
will be given 10 minutes to finish the story.
The two last threes’ who will past the paper will share their story in front.

Simple Present Tense IPP-Lesson PLan

  • 1. XAVIER UNIVERSITY Ateneo de Cagayan Grade School Department Cagayan de Oro City IPP PLAN IN LANGUAGE VI SY 2015-2016 Lesson Author: Lea Mae Ann B. Violeta Demonstration Date:November 18‚ 2015 Topic: Simple Present Tense I. Context There are 39 pupils in Grade 6 Borgia‚ it composed of 23 girls and 16 boys. The class is grouped heterogeneously. Some of them are auditory‚ visual‚ and kinesthetic learners. To meet their different learning preferences‚ varied activities will be provided to cater their different learning needs. Pupils were involved in a community and aware’ of what’s happening in their surroundings. They probably observed other people like playing in the park‚ praying in the church‚ eating in the canteen‚ etc. With these‚ they will be able to describe the image/action provided by their teacher and will share it to the class. II. Objectives At the end of the discussion‚ the pupils will be able to: A. Cognitive/ Psychomotor 1. define simple present tense; 2. identify the correct verb tenses in oral and written activity; 3. describe the image using simple present tense by writing a short story and; B. Affective 1. appreciate the importance of using correct verb tenses. III. Learning Content Content Focus : Individual Observation Grammar Focus : Simple Present Tense Communication Functions : Sharing ideas about the given image Listening to written story Reference : English Language Power 6 Materials : DLP and Laptop IV. Learning Experience Student’s Learning Activities Prelection The pupil will describe the situation using simple present tense. 1. Say/Ask:  Good morning‚ Grade 6 Borgia!  How are you?  Did you eat your snacks?  What do you usually do before you go here?
  • 2. 2. Let’s do Charade! The class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group will choose a representative to ACT the word they pick and the remaining group will guess what their representatives acted. The first group who will get 5 points will be declared a winner. Hidden Words: Reading‚ Combing‚ Sleeping‚ Shouting‚ Eating‚ Walking‚ Sitting‚ Loving‚ Running‚ Clapping‚ Jumping‚ Driving‚ Waving‚ Crying‚ Dancing‚ Singing‚ Playing‚ Knocking‚ Praying‚ Laughing‚ Flying‚ Writing. Note (Optional): To maintain silence‚ encourage the pupils to keep quiet‚ if they fail‚ their score will be deducted 1 point. 3. Say/Ask:  What did you feelin the activity?  Can you enumerate those words we encountered in the activity? Give one each.  How do we call those words? The Present Principle is formed by adding –ing to the verb. It is used with the different forms of the verb be (am‚ is‚ are‚ was‚ were‚ has been‚ had‚ been‚ will be‚ shall be) to express continuing actions or conditions. This is also called the progressive form.  Let the pupils identify the Present Principle found in the sentence. 1. See baby riding easily. 2. I saw Rabert driving skillfully. 3. I can hear him singing a song. 4. I saw the child kicking the ball. 5. We saw a man leading.  Present a picture and they will describe the image using the Present Participle.  Introduce the topic and discuss.  Present image with a caption then let the students choose the correct present tense. They travel/travels every Sunday.
  • 3. He go/goes to school by bike. People sleep/sleeps at night. Verbs have four principal parts which are the present‚ the present particle‚ the past and the past particle. a) The present is used for the present tense and the future tense. b) The present participle expresses on going action. c) The past is used for the past tense. d) The past participle is used for perfect tenses and in sentences passive voice.  Review 4. Present a sample word to the class. Let a volunteer to fill in the missing part of the chart with the present participle. 5. Choose the correct alternative for each situation by encircling the word. Present Present Participle 1. Blow 2. Push 3. Smile 4. Shake 5. Close
  • 4.  Then‚ the class will listen to the song and check. They will then sing the song together. 6. Say/Ask:  Did you enjoy the song?  How was your experience in the activity?  What do you think will happen if wrong verb tenses used in the song? 7. The teacher will emphasize that using correct tenses allows you to express clearly the time relationships among your ideas. When deciding which verb tense to use, aim for consistency, simplicity, and clarity. 8. Review  What are the four verb tenses?  In your own definition‚ what is Present tense? Present Participle?  Why correct verb tenses importance? V. Reflection How will you apply your learnings in using correct verb tenses in real life situation? VI. Action/Assignment Present a story and critique the verb tenses used. Then identify the error in every sentence and change it into correct tense. If there’s no error‚ don’t change anything. Write your answer in ¼ sheet of paper. Example: Bonus no. 1: ‘are’ is error. Then change the ‘are’ to correct tense. The correct verb tense is ‘is’. Answer:Hank is a cowboy. VII. Evaluation Who is he? Where is he? What does he do? (1) Hank are a cowboy. (2) He live on a farm. (3) He has a horse named Ginger. (4) Hank love Ginger.(5) He ride Gingereveryday.(6) Sometimesthey walk slowly, and sometimes they run fast. (7) They always have a good time. (8) Ginger are Hank's horse. (9) She are light brown. (10) Her tail and mane is dark brown. (11) She is three years old. (12) She live in the stable by the house. (13) Ginger wait for Hank every morning. (14) She enjoy their time together. (15) Often, (16) Hank give her apples. (17) After long rides, Hank always washes and brushes Ginger. (18) He usuallybrusheshertail.(19) Thenhe give herfoodand freshwater.(20)Gingerlove Hank.
  • 5. By three. The teacher will show three pictures and then they will choose one to make a story. Then, the student will look at the picture for two minutes and will come up a7 to 10 sentence story using the simple present tense. This will be written on a ½ sheet of paper. They will be given 10 minutes to finish the story. The two last threes’ who will past the paper will share their story in front.
