Character is Fate – Essay
"A man's character is his fate" once said the Greek philosopher Heraclites. By this he meant that our
personalities and actions shape the outcomes of our lives and therefore our destiny. This statement
opposes the traditional view that man's fate is determined by an external force (name it god or even
chance). This argument is basically one of faith: do you believe we shape our own futures by
how we act, or are our lives programmed in a certain unchangeable way? In other words, do you
believe in an omnipotent being that has our lives or at least our futures predetermined? As we shall
see, a man's character defines his life (as his behaviour, emotions and actions determine his daily
life), but I believe that our...show more content...
I believe that this is a matter of chance (the fact that a good person might get in the way of a bad
one and therefore have a terrible outcome which his/her character doesn't reflect) and even tough we
might have a certain personality that should lead us to a consequent destiny, unexpected and random
variables get in the way and might change the course of our fates.
Definitely our character will have an important role to play in determining the outcomes of our
lives, but from this idea we can draw the idea that although character controls our life, we can't
control our fates: our fates are predestined. We can call these omnipotent force God, devil,
providence or chance, but the fact is that our fate has already been planned for us and even if we
could change our character (making us believe that we are changing our fate), we are only
changing direction into a fate we think is new, but in reality is the fate that was always predestined
for us. Furthermore, character is not the only factor in determining our lives. We must consider
external factors such as the environment, nature and fortune. For example, in the novel 'The Mayor
of Casterbridge' by Thomas Hardy, the main character, Mr. Henchard organizes a fair for the
townspeople in order to show the people that despite what he appears to be, he is really kind and
humane. Everything turns out wrong for him because heavy rain ruins the event (Nature intervenes)

The Importance Of Character
According to Merriam–Webster, character is "The group of qualities that make a person, group, or
thing different from others." Character is the way a person reasons, feels, and acts. It is a state
of being and not doing. The choices and decisions that are made when no one is watching
typically exemplifies the real you. Most of us tend to make better decisions when others are
watching to protect our reputations. For some reason, we want people to think of us in a certain
manner; therefore, we behave the way others think we should. I personally know people that act
a certain way when others are watching, but behind closed doors they are a completely different
person. This is hypocritical behavior. A hypocrite is a person that says one thing and does another.
Often times, their words are not consistent with their actions and deeds. A person of integrity will
be who they are regardless of where they are and who they are with. They will not change. If you
want to test a person's character, just observe how they treat the people whom they have authority or
advantage over. Malcolm Forbes, publisher of Forbes magazine, states, "You can easily judge the
character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." Character is one of the most
important things we possess. A person's nature and temperament will sustain them and determine the
course of their lives. The condition of our hearts can be perceived by our actions, attitudes, reactions,
and responses;

Character Archetypes
In Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, the repeating character archetype seen is the rich villain. This
archetype is seen in Leigh Teabing, the main antagonist in the novel. This archetype influences the
way people see wealthy people in society. It influences the average middle class person into thinking
that money will corrupt them, that those with money are not trustworthy and sexist. The character
archetype, the rich villain, influences people into thinking that money corrupts those who come
across it. In Kristy Maddux's article, "he da Vinci Code and the Regressive Gender Politics of
Celebrating Women", she states, "Once in London, however, their coalition crumbles when Teabing
is revealed to be the mastermind behind the operation" (Maddux,...show more content...
In the article "The da Vinci Code and the Regressive Gender Politics of Celebrating Women",
Kristy states, ". Ultimately, Teabing is arrested, and Neveu and Langdon are left to unravel
Sauniere's trail"(Maddux, 3). This quote states that Leigh Teabing gets arrested which proves that
he is the villain. At first, Robert Langdon and Sophie trusted Leigh Teabing but he turned out to
be a liar. The other antagonists in this novel who also betray the people around them are rich. This
causes people to believe that those who are rich are not trustworthy. Also, the two characters in the
story who are trustworthy, Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu, are not shown to have a significant
amount of wealth. This just amplifies the influence that the rich villain archetype has on people.
The novel portrays those who are rich as untrustworthy and betrayers, and portrays those who are
not rich as trustworthy. Another example of the rich villain who influences people into believing
that those with money are not trustworthy is Donald Trump. A creative video piece made my John
Oliver called "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver: Donald Trump", explains how untrustworthy
Donald Trump really is. In the piece, John Oliver says, "The website politifacts checks 77 of his
statements and rated 76 percent of them as varying degrees of false" (Oliver, 2:30). This quote
explains how more than three quarters of Donald Trump's statements are lies. This also influences
people into thinking that those with money are not trustworthy because he is always talking about
how rich he is and he is beginning to cause people to create connections between his wealth and his
lying habits. He tells people he is rich and he lies so often that people have began to correlate those
two traits with each other. That is how the archetype of the rich villain is influencing people into
thinking that those who

Does Character Matter
Does character matter? Why or why not?
Having character in any field where you work with other, matter a lot. In education, character is
very important. Just as McEwan states "Character, or lack of it, is a hot topic in schools today,
Educators are desperate to create more humane and caring schools–not only as an antidote to
prejudice and violence from within but also to the hatred and terrorism without. Character–building
programs are more the rule than the exception, and many states now mandate them" (McEwan,
2003). Character helps a lot when it comes to educating our students. But before we can teach
students about character traits, we need to make sure school staff members have character. It is
important that the leaders in the school lead

Connotation Of Character
Some may think of the word "character" and read the textbook denotation, which is described as: the
mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Of course, this definition is not entirely
incorrect. However, similar to other words, a dictionary meaning does not exactly explain what the
word's connotation truly is, for the explanation insinuates that everyone has character, when, in
reality, it is not a quality that all people share.
Character can be defined in many different ways, such as: being generally nice and kind. This does
not mean going and grabbing any grandmother you see and dragging her across the street, but,
instead, this means genuinely aided someone in some way. For instance, holding the door open for

I yearned to put a halt to the constant aching in my chest. I was desperate for a cure and I had
heard that others found solace in inflicting pain upon themselves, so, being but a naive child, I did
so. As expected, I found no consolation in causing myself even more agony so, I told no one of
this. Nevertheless, Madison discovered the deep scars that lined my arms and, instead of showing a
look of disappointment, she told me something that I needed to hear. She told me that I was worth
something, that I was able to do whatever I set my mind to, that life was worth living. The path that
she sent me down is one that I still walk to this day.
Though Madison helped mold who I am to do this day, my mother played a great role in that process
as well. Years ago, she struggled with a terrible drug addiction, which led to sporadic absences.
She knew that it was a terrible thing to do, but addiction is a difficult beast to kill. However, she
has since slain the monster and given her, my sister, and myself a better life. Juliet, my mother, has
shown that character is not just a simple act such as holding a door open, but something entirely
different. She gave up something that she craved just to better our homelife and for that, I will be

Banquo Character Analysis
How Banquo is a foil to Macbeth
A foil's purpose in literature is to provide contrast and advance the protagonist's character in way
that spurs the protagonist into action. In Shakespeare's Macbeth, Shakespeare shows how Banquo is
a direct foil to Macbeth and how Banquo's presence in the play also develops Macbeth's character.
Throughout the play Macbeth and Banquo characters are contrasted on many different occasions, for
example the witches' prophecies and how they both react to them, their specific character traits, and
lastly their relationship and how to degrades throughout the play. Shakespeare presents these two
characters as complete opposites, which gives the audience a chance to connect with Macbeth as his
character advances through the plot and in character.
The differences and similarities in personality between Macbeth and Banquo are apparent from Act
1 but Shakespeare uses their differences as a way to establish both of them, as separate characters.
In the third scene of the play, the witches first appear to Macbeth and Banquo, and as of now the
contrast between Banquo and Macbeth are beginning to be unravel. This is shown through
Macbeth's and Banquo's reaction to the witches prophecy, "Things that do sound so fair? I' the name
of truth,/ Are ye fantastical, or that indeed/Which outwardly ye show? My noble partner/You greet
with present grace and great prediction/Of noble having and of royal hope,/That he seems rapt
withal: to me you speak not."(1.3.54–60).
Shakespeare uses Banquo to highlight the fact that Macbeth is "Rapt withal", Macbeth is very
gullible and takes things at face value and he begins to think of the witches' statements as
providence rather than prophecy. Shortly after, during his aside he state that he will leave it to
chance but the seeds of ambition are already beginning to grow in his mind due to these prophecies.
Also, the quote "to me you speak not" shows that Banquo, contrasting heavily from Macbeth, is
rather unfazed by these prophecies. This also furthers their character's differences, in the sense that
Macbeth is more easily persuaded and not questioning anything, while Banquo is more down to earth
and is taking the witches words

The Importance of Good Character Essay
Why is character important? Why is it important to be a person of good morals, ethics, and
character? Can that make you more productive in life, family, school, business, work, etc. ? Well,
good moral, ethics, and character has NEVER hurt anyone. President Abraham Lincoln once said,
"Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree." To many, this quote means that Character is like a
tree which bears the shadow of their reputation whether it be good or bad. "I have no regrets in my
life. I think that everything happens to you for a reason. The hard times that you go through build
character, making you a much stronger person." – Rita Moreno As seen in these quotes, character is

Good character/characteristics also show leadership and value. Not only to the people around
you, but to the marketplace (where you work). Let's put this into perspective. IF..... you were the
employer or manager of a company: the person in charge of hiring and firing, which person would
you hire? Person 1 or Person 2 ? Person 1: Well, I went to this school, and I have this degree, and I
know that when you hire me I'll make the MOST for this company. You have never seen anyone
like me. You should be glad that I'm even here in your office today. So... are you gonna take me,
or leave me? Person 2: Well Mr./Mrs. _________, I'm so honored to be here today. I'm grateful
that you took the time to interview me. I might not have all the credentials for this position with
your company, but I am willing to learn whatever you teach me. If you teach me, I'll do my very
best at my job, and will work at doing it to the best of my ability. Now that your thinking about
these two different people (that your considering to hire) which one would you choose? Person 1
or Person 2 ? Well, the majority of us would choose Person 2. Why?? Because Person 2 shows that
they are humble, teachable, and grateful. We wouldn't hire Person 1 because they appeared as
arrogant, "stuck–up", and maybe even pushy. My point is simply this. Not just your mannerism, but
your character can be seen through how you speak, carry yourself,

Character Analysis Of ' Superman '
Character Arching in Major Comics
Imagine Superman at his angriest, ready to murder the villain who put him through one of his worst
experiences. There's a tremendous battle, walls and floors are punctures with holes and valuable
artifacts held within the Fortress of Solitude are crumbling to dust, broken and irreplaceable. And
when he finally gets the upper hand, Superman sees something that reminds him of who he really is
inside and who we expect him to be, causing him to stop from killing another being.
Telling stories about comic book characters from the major companies is tricky. Companies was to
promote their name brands (gotta have my Iron Man sheets!) while still attempting to keep their
characters important and relevant. Yet, character arcs are a disservice to their branding: if a
character truly changes, will they still be able to make movies, cartoons and action figures? And
that's the rub; characters in comics (from the big companies) rarely change, or arc.
An arc occurs when the character becomes a different person because of the challenges they've
faced. Luke Skywalker, following Conrad's archetypal hero's journey, goes from a typical, whiney
teen to destroying the Death Star. On the farm, he longs to be free, independent and find his place
in the world and by the end of Star Wars he's flying among the stars and a hero to the rebellion. The
Captain American movie trilogy arcs Steve Rogers, as well. In movie one, Steve is the super patriot

Essay On Character Traits
There are many character traits that make someone successful in life. Some traits you are born with,
other traits are mindsets. There are a few character traits that coaches, teachers, bosses, or any other
significant figure looks for in particular. One of the most important character traits is a hard–working
attitude. You aren't born with a hard–working attitude. It is a mindset. You may not be the best
employee, but an employer will be more willing to work with someone that works hard than
someone that can do the job but is lazy. Although I am not the best at everything, I give 100%
effort in everything that I do and believe that working hard is the most important trait a person can

I knew that in order to be starting, I needed to be the hardest worker on the team. With all my hard
work came a starting position. The biggest lesson that my father taught me was in seventh grade.
It was a normal day of basketball practice and we were scrimmaging. During a particular play, I
ran the wrong route. He made me run around the gym for forgetting what to do. I decided that I
was too tired to sprint around the gym. Because of my decision, he chose to kick me out of
practice. I knew at that point that I could take no breaks. While I was taking breaks, other people
were getting better. Chances to improve were very slim, so I needed to take advantage of them
whenever possible. Although this was a very inconvenient way for me to learn this lesson, he
definitely got his point across and I now work hard every chance that I get. Everyone wants to
have a successful career. The first step to a successful career is to obtain the job that you want.
Obviously you need the education level for this occupation, but what else is going to give you a leg
up on the competition? As a Sophomore in high school, I had the opportunity to job shadow a
manager of engineers at an engineering firm. One of his responsibilities was going through the
hiring process. As a prospective future employee, I was curious as to what he looked for most in
an employee. He did not say education. He did not say experience. He said that they needed a hard

Jane Eyre Character Analysis
Jane Eyre is one of many characters in literature that readers can show true empathy to. She is an
honorable woman, humble and courageous, kind but strong–willed. While many stories rely on
imperfect lead protagonists who fail in order to relate to the downtrodden nature of the human
condition, Jane is altogether different. She appeals to the nobler parts of one's self, a part that is
equally common to everyone, but by which one is rarely reminded of. Jane Eyre written by Charlotte
BrontГ« demonstrates that only when people experience difficulties in their life do they find their
true selves.

solidifies her orphanhood by severing ties to the little semblance of family that remained to her. She

You think I have no feelings, and that I can do without one bit of love or kindness; but I cannot live

the strangest sense of freedom, of triumph, I ever felt. It seemed as if an invisible bond had burst,
and that I had struggled out into unhoped–for liberty. (64)
Jane asserts her fiery spirit in her tirade. She displays her keen sense of justice and asserts her
need for love. Jane finally gets this burden of her chest which results in her emotional liberation.
Not only is she liberated from the physical injustices of Mrs. Reed, she is also released from the
psychological injustices suffered at her hand. Jane asserts her authority over her tyrannical aunt.

Severus Snape : Fictional Character Essay
Severus Snape is a fictional character in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. He is characterised as
a person of great complexity, whose coldly sarcastic and controlled exterior conceals deep
emotions and anguish. In the first novel of the series, Snape is a teacher who is hostile from the
start toward Harry. As the series progresses, Snape 's character becomes more layered and
enigmatic. Rowling does not fully reveal the details of his true loyalties until the end of the final
book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Over the course of the series, Snape 's portrayal
evolves from that of a malicious and partisan teacher to that of a pivotal character of considerable
intricacy and moral ambiguity.
In the series, Snape is an exceptionally skilful wizard who primarily teaches Potions at Hogwarts
School. In the sixth novel, he teaches Defence Against the Dark Arts, a position which he was
known to have desired throughout the series. For much of the series, Snape 's actions seem to serve
Harry Potter 's nemesis, Lord Voldemort, although Harry 's mentor, Dumbledore, often advises Harry
that – despite his actions and animosity – Snape is trustworthy and his true loyalties can be relied
upon. He ultimately becomes Headmaster of Hogwarts in the final novel, after killing Dumbledore
at the end of the sixth book. Snape himself dies at the hands of Voldemort in the final chapters of the
seventh book, revealing his memories and true back story to Harry in his last minutes. In the book

Character traits are sometimes described as good or bad, and everyone has them. Good character

Honesty and truthfulness to self and to others makes you a reliable individual. It is an important

What Is A Good Character Essay
What is character? Character is something that is hard to explain. It is who we are, the way we
act, and the kind of person we truly are and want to be. Character is what you are in the dark. But
if character is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter?
Character matters because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always
watching us and the way we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it
is our job to constantly be a role model of good character. A couple of ways that we can show our
character are through gratitude and respect, but we can also look up to others, such as Benjamin
Franklin, as role models for good character. Showing gratitude towards others is a great way to
express good character. Being thankful and showing appreciation for those in our lives helps us
strengthen our character and show others the good in ourselves. Being grateful is also a way of
being humble and allowing others to see that we don't think we are better than them. Gratitude can
sometimes be hard to find, but there are many ways to show how grateful we are. Thank you cards,

Character Reflection
Generally, literature imitates life; the authors write about the tragic consequences of covetous
lifestyles to provoke readers. Consequently, after being inspired from these works, readers become
enraged and demand a moral change in their lives. Of course, these realizations are built on the
belief that their lives are filled with too much selfishness so they must become gratified. However,
these moral transformations occur and are unsuccessful because people do not change. While I
emphasize this belief of mine, I must point out: one's moral beliefs, their character, their principles,
their truths, all do not change. Moreover, people's lifestyles, appearance, thoughts, and behaviors do
transform as they grow. Once faced with idolization, one will learn of other's true and immutable
character. What one owns, how they spend their time, and who they associate themselves with,
shows one's indisputable nature. Regardless if an opulent possession was being earned or given, the
novelty will reveal one's true and unchanging character. While I was participating in a ski race as a
young teen, I came off the pitch, accelerated through the flats, and came through the last gate to the
finish. The run was perfect; except I went around the wrong side of the end gate. Because of the high
level of competition at this particular race, I would have thought someone would have caught this
fortuity; but no spectator contradicted my performance. Coaches, parents, athletes, all came up to

Character, Morals, Integrity Essay
Character, Morals, Integrity Morals, character, integrity, what do these words mean....actually, the
question is, do you have them. A man named Dwight Moody once said, "Character is what you
are in the dark." You cannot see your morals, character, or integrity, these are only shown as your
values. Someone could only show their own values, which are very important to themselves and
everyone else. Integrity is the firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values. The
way you show your integrity, character, and morals or how they are effect you in either a negative
or positive way. There are many causes to how your values are. So as you know, integrity is very

Laura stated, "integrity effects you by either being honest or not. If you are honest, then you
have integrity. People who say that they are going to do something do it." You can now see that
character, morals, and integrity are very important. Secondly, people may think that their values
may not affect them, but they're wrong, they affect them a lot. Since character describes how you
are and what your moral strengths are, having bad character could make people dislike you
because of how you are. On the other hand, if you have good character, then more people would
see how good of a person you are and even more people would like you. Morals sort of describe the
way you make decisions, so having bad morals could guide your life down the drain, while having
good morals could guide your life minute by minute toward noble goals. Integrity is also very
important. Having bad integrity could make you very non–trustworthy to others. Having good
integrity would make you very trustworthy to others. Knowing how important they are, you should
always have good or even better character, morals, and integrity. Also, there are many causes for
how your character, morals, and integrity are. One cause could of course be yourself. By hanging
out with the right people and making good decisions, you could have good values. Yet hanging out
with the wrong people and making bad decisions would be having bad values. Another cause may

Character Essay

  • 1. Character is Fate – Essay "A man's character is his fate" once said the Greek philosopher Heraclites. By this he meant that our personalities and actions shape the outcomes of our lives and therefore our destiny. This statement opposes the traditional view that man's fate is determined by an external force (name it god or even chance). This argument is basically one of faith: do you believe we shape our own futures by how we act, or are our lives programmed in a certain unchangeable way? In other words, do you believe in an omnipotent being that has our lives or at least our futures predetermined? As we shall see, a man's character defines his life (as his behaviour, emotions and actions determine his daily life), but I believe that our...show more content... I believe that this is a matter of chance (the fact that a good person might get in the way of a bad one and therefore have a terrible outcome which his/her character doesn't reflect) and even tough we might have a certain personality that should lead us to a consequent destiny, unexpected and random variables get in the way and might change the course of our fates. Definitely our character will have an important role to play in determining the outcomes of our lives, but from this idea we can draw the idea that although character controls our life, we can't control our fates: our fates are predestined. We can call these omnipotent force God, devil, providence or chance, but the fact is that our fate has already been planned for us and even if we could change our character (making us believe that we are changing our fate), we are only changing direction into a fate we think is new, but in reality is the fate that was always predestined for us. Furthermore, character is not the only factor in determining our lives. We must consider external factors such as the environment, nature and fortune. For example, in the novel 'The Mayor of Casterbridge' by Thomas Hardy, the main character, Mr. Henchard organizes a fair for the townspeople in order to show the people that despite what he appears to be, he is really kind and humane. Everything turns out wrong for him because heavy rain ruins the event (Nature intervenes) and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Importance Of Character According to Merriam–Webster, character is "The group of qualities that make a person, group, or thing different from others." Character is the way a person reasons, feels, and acts. It is a state of being and not doing. The choices and decisions that are made when no one is watching typically exemplifies the real you. Most of us tend to make better decisions when others are watching to protect our reputations. For some reason, we want people to think of us in a certain manner; therefore, we behave the way others think we should. I personally know people that act a certain way when others are watching, but behind closed doors they are a completely different person. This is hypocritical behavior. A hypocrite is a person that says one thing and does another. Often times, their words are not consistent with their actions and deeds. A person of integrity will be who they are regardless of where they are and who they are with. They will not change. If you want to test a person's character, just observe how they treat the people whom they have authority or advantage over. Malcolm Forbes, publisher of Forbes magazine, states, "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." Character is one of the most important things we possess. A person's nature and temperament will sustain them and determine the course of their lives. The condition of our hearts can be perceived by our actions, attitudes, reactions, and responses; Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Character Archetypes In Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, the repeating character archetype seen is the rich villain. This archetype is seen in Leigh Teabing, the main antagonist in the novel. This archetype influences the way people see wealthy people in society. It influences the average middle class person into thinking that money will corrupt them, that those with money are not trustworthy and sexist. The character archetype, the rich villain, influences people into thinking that money corrupts those who come across it. In Kristy Maddux's article, "he da Vinci Code and the Regressive Gender Politics of Celebrating Women", she states, "Once in London, however, their coalition crumbles when Teabing is revealed to be the mastermind behind the operation" (Maddux,...show more content... In the article "The da Vinci Code and the Regressive Gender Politics of Celebrating Women", Kristy states, ". Ultimately, Teabing is arrested, and Neveu and Langdon are left to unravel Sauniere's trail"(Maddux, 3). This quote states that Leigh Teabing gets arrested which proves that he is the villain. At first, Robert Langdon and Sophie trusted Leigh Teabing but he turned out to be a liar. The other antagonists in this novel who also betray the people around them are rich. This causes people to believe that those who are rich are not trustworthy. Also, the two characters in the story who are trustworthy, Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu, are not shown to have a significant amount of wealth. This just amplifies the influence that the rich villain archetype has on people. The novel portrays those who are rich as untrustworthy and betrayers, and portrays those who are not rich as trustworthy. Another example of the rich villain who influences people into believing that those with money are not trustworthy is Donald Trump. A creative video piece made my John Oliver called "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver: Donald Trump", explains how untrustworthy Donald Trump really is. In the piece, John Oliver says, "The website politifacts checks 77 of his statements and rated 76 percent of them as varying degrees of false" (Oliver, 2:30). This quote explains how more than three quarters of Donald Trump's statements are lies. This also influences people into thinking that those with money are not trustworthy because he is always talking about how rich he is and he is beginning to cause people to create connections between his wealth and his lying habits. He tells people he is rich and he lies so often that people have began to correlate those two traits with each other. That is how the archetype of the rich villain is influencing people into thinking that those who Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Does Character Matter Does character matter? Why or why not? Having character in any field where you work with other, matter a lot. In education, character is very important. Just as McEwan states "Character, or lack of it, is a hot topic in schools today, Educators are desperate to create more humane and caring schools–not only as an antidote to prejudice and violence from within but also to the hatred and terrorism without. Character–building programs are more the rule than the exception, and many states now mandate them" (McEwan, 2003). Character helps a lot when it comes to educating our students. But before we can teach students about character traits, we need to make sure school staff members have character. It is important that the leaders in the school lead Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Connotation Of Character Some may think of the word "character" and read the textbook denotation, which is described as: the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Of course, this definition is not entirely incorrect. However, similar to other words, a dictionary meaning does not exactly explain what the word's connotation truly is, for the explanation insinuates that everyone has character, when, in reality, it is not a quality that all people share. Character can be defined in many different ways, such as: being generally nice and kind. This does not mean going and grabbing any grandmother you see and dragging her across the street, but, instead, this means genuinely aided someone in some way. For instance, holding the door open for someone...show more content... I yearned to put a halt to the constant aching in my chest. I was desperate for a cure and I had heard that others found solace in inflicting pain upon themselves, so, being but a naive child, I did so. As expected, I found no consolation in causing myself even more agony so, I told no one of this. Nevertheless, Madison discovered the deep scars that lined my arms and, instead of showing a look of disappointment, she told me something that I needed to hear. She told me that I was worth something, that I was able to do whatever I set my mind to, that life was worth living. The path that she sent me down is one that I still walk to this day. Though Madison helped mold who I am to do this day, my mother played a great role in that process as well. Years ago, she struggled with a terrible drug addiction, which led to sporadic absences. She knew that it was a terrible thing to do, but addiction is a difficult beast to kill. However, she has since slain the monster and given her, my sister, and myself a better life. Juliet, my mother, has shown that character is not just a simple act such as holding a door open, but something entirely different. She gave up something that she craved just to better our homelife and for that, I will be forever Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Banquo Character Analysis How Banquo is a foil to Macbeth A foil's purpose in literature is to provide contrast and advance the protagonist's character in way that spurs the protagonist into action. In Shakespeare's Macbeth, Shakespeare shows how Banquo is a direct foil to Macbeth and how Banquo's presence in the play also develops Macbeth's character. Throughout the play Macbeth and Banquo characters are contrasted on many different occasions, for example the witches' prophecies and how they both react to them, their specific character traits, and lastly their relationship and how to degrades throughout the play. Shakespeare presents these two characters as complete opposites, which gives the audience a chance to connect with Macbeth as his character advances through the plot and in character. The differences and similarities in personality between Macbeth and Banquo are apparent from Act 1 but Shakespeare uses their differences as a way to establish both of them, as separate characters. In the third scene of the play, the witches first appear to Macbeth and Banquo, and as of now the contrast between Banquo and Macbeth are beginning to be unravel. This is shown through Macbeth's and Banquo's reaction to the witches prophecy, "Things that do sound so fair? I' the name of truth,/ Are ye fantastical, or that indeed/Which outwardly ye show? My noble partner/You greet with present grace and great prediction/Of noble having and of royal hope,/That he seems rapt withal: to me you speak not."(1.3.54–60). Shakespeare uses Banquo to highlight the fact that Macbeth is "Rapt withal", Macbeth is very gullible and takes things at face value and he begins to think of the witches' statements as providence rather than prophecy. Shortly after, during his aside he state that he will leave it to chance but the seeds of ambition are already beginning to grow in his mind due to these prophecies. Also, the quote "to me you speak not" shows that Banquo, contrasting heavily from Macbeth, is rather unfazed by these prophecies. This also furthers their character's differences, in the sense that Macbeth is more easily persuaded and not questioning anything, while Banquo is more down to earth and is taking the witches words Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. The Importance of Good Character Essay Why is character important? Why is it important to be a person of good morals, ethics, and character? Can that make you more productive in life, family, school, business, work, etc. ? Well, good moral, ethics, and character has NEVER hurt anyone. President Abraham Lincoln once said, "Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree." To many, this quote means that Character is like a tree which bears the shadow of their reputation whether it be good or bad. "I have no regrets in my life. I think that everything happens to you for a reason. The hard times that you go through build character, making you a much stronger person." – Rita Moreno As seen in these quotes, character is important, and it determines your reputation in...show more content... Good character/characteristics also show leadership and value. Not only to the people around you, but to the marketplace (where you work). Let's put this into perspective. IF..... you were the employer or manager of a company: the person in charge of hiring and firing, which person would you hire? Person 1 or Person 2 ? Person 1: Well, I went to this school, and I have this degree, and I know that when you hire me I'll make the MOST for this company. You have never seen anyone like me. You should be glad that I'm even here in your office today. So... are you gonna take me, or leave me? Person 2: Well Mr./Mrs. _________, I'm so honored to be here today. I'm grateful that you took the time to interview me. I might not have all the credentials for this position with your company, but I am willing to learn whatever you teach me. If you teach me, I'll do my very best at my job, and will work at doing it to the best of my ability. Now that your thinking about these two different people (that your considering to hire) which one would you choose? Person 1 or Person 2 ? Well, the majority of us would choose Person 2. Why?? Because Person 2 shows that they are humble, teachable, and grateful. We wouldn't hire Person 1 because they appeared as arrogant, "stuck–up", and maybe even pushy. My point is simply this. Not just your mannerism, but your character can be seen through how you speak, carry yourself, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Character Analysis Of ' Superman ' Character Arching in Major Comics Imagine Superman at his angriest, ready to murder the villain who put him through one of his worst experiences. There's a tremendous battle, walls and floors are punctures with holes and valuable artifacts held within the Fortress of Solitude are crumbling to dust, broken and irreplaceable. And when he finally gets the upper hand, Superman sees something that reminds him of who he really is inside and who we expect him to be, causing him to stop from killing another being. Telling stories about comic book characters from the major companies is tricky. Companies was to promote their name brands (gotta have my Iron Man sheets!) while still attempting to keep their characters important and relevant. Yet, character arcs are a disservice to their branding: if a character truly changes, will they still be able to make movies, cartoons and action figures? And that's the rub; characters in comics (from the big companies) rarely change, or arc. An arc occurs when the character becomes a different person because of the challenges they've faced. Luke Skywalker, following Conrad's archetypal hero's journey, goes from a typical, whiney teen to destroying the Death Star. On the farm, he longs to be free, independent and find his place in the world and by the end of Star Wars he's flying among the stars and a hero to the rebellion. The Captain American movie trilogy arcs Steve Rogers, as well. In movie one, Steve is the super patriot willing to do Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay On Character Traits There are many character traits that make someone successful in life. Some traits you are born with, other traits are mindsets. There are a few character traits that coaches, teachers, bosses, or any other significant figure looks for in particular. One of the most important character traits is a hard–working attitude. You aren't born with a hard–working attitude. It is a mindset. You may not be the best employee, but an employer will be more willing to work with someone that works hard than someone that can do the job but is lazy. Although I am not the best at everything, I give 100% effort in everything that I do and believe that working hard is the most important trait a person can possess. As a child, the phrase, "Do your best," was...show more content... I knew that in order to be starting, I needed to be the hardest worker on the team. With all my hard work came a starting position. The biggest lesson that my father taught me was in seventh grade. It was a normal day of basketball practice and we were scrimmaging. During a particular play, I ran the wrong route. He made me run around the gym for forgetting what to do. I decided that I was too tired to sprint around the gym. Because of my decision, he chose to kick me out of practice. I knew at that point that I could take no breaks. While I was taking breaks, other people were getting better. Chances to improve were very slim, so I needed to take advantage of them whenever possible. Although this was a very inconvenient way for me to learn this lesson, he definitely got his point across and I now work hard every chance that I get. Everyone wants to have a successful career. The first step to a successful career is to obtain the job that you want. Obviously you need the education level for this occupation, but what else is going to give you a leg up on the competition? As a Sophomore in high school, I had the opportunity to job shadow a manager of engineers at an engineering firm. One of his responsibilities was going through the hiring process. As a prospective future employee, I was curious as to what he looked for most in an employee. He did not say education. He did not say experience. He said that they needed a hard working Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Jane Eyre Character Analysis Jane Eyre is one of many characters in literature that readers can show true empathy to. She is an honorable woman, humble and courageous, kind but strong–willed. While many stories rely on imperfect lead protagonists who fail in order to relate to the downtrodden nature of the human condition, Jane is altogether different. She appeals to the nobler parts of one's self, a part that is equally common to everyone, but by which one is rarely reminded of. Jane Eyre written by Charlotte BrontГ« demonstrates that only when people experience difficulties in their life do they find their true selves. Jane Eyre's endurance in the face of physical and psychological difficulties reveals much about the human condition of perseverance. Jane is...show more content... Because Jane perseveres through a societal situation where she is not only belittled by her aunt but also destined to be disposable to men, she develops the ability to fight abruptly for what she believes in at all times. To start off, before her departure from Gateshead to Lowood School, Jane solidifies her orphanhood by severing ties to the little semblance of family that remained to her. She screams at her aunt: You think I have no feelings, and that I can do without one bit of love or kindness; but I cannot live so: and you have no pity. I shall remember how you thrust me back...into the red–room...And that punishment you made me suffer because your wicked boy struck me...I will tell anybody who asks me questions this exact tale. 'Ere I had finished this reply, my soul began to expand, to exult, with the strangest sense of freedom, of triumph, I ever felt. It seemed as if an invisible bond had burst, and that I had struggled out into unhoped–for liberty. (64) Jane asserts her fiery spirit in her tirade. She displays her keen sense of justice and asserts her need for love. Jane finally gets this burden of her chest which results in her emotional liberation. Not only is she liberated from the physical injustices of Mrs. Reed, she is also released from the psychological injustices suffered at her hand. Jane asserts her authority over her tyrannical aunt. • 11. Finding Your Identity It may not always be easy for you to find your identity. In the movie Finding Forrester, Jamal, a young African American teen that lives in the Bronx, discovered what it was like to be challenged with challenges he would not have expected. Jamal was dared by his friends to break into an old man's apartment. The old man always watched the boys play basketball. While Jamal was in his apartment the old man found him and Jamal dashed out and forgot his school bag. The old man went through his bag and corrected his papers then gave it back to Jamal. • 12. Severus Snape : Fictional Character Essay Severus Snape is a fictional character in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. He is characterised as a person of great complexity, whose coldly sarcastic and controlled exterior conceals deep emotions and anguish. In the first novel of the series, Snape is a teacher who is hostile from the start toward Harry. As the series progresses, Snape 's character becomes more layered and enigmatic. Rowling does not fully reveal the details of his true loyalties until the end of the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Over the course of the series, Snape 's portrayal evolves from that of a malicious and partisan teacher to that of a pivotal character of considerable intricacy and moral ambiguity. In the series, Snape is an exceptionally skilful wizard who primarily teaches Potions at Hogwarts School. In the sixth novel, he teaches Defence Against the Dark Arts, a position which he was known to have desired throughout the series. For much of the series, Snape 's actions seem to serve Harry Potter 's nemesis, Lord Voldemort, although Harry 's mentor, Dumbledore, often advises Harry that – despite his actions and animosity – Snape is trustworthy and his true loyalties can be relied upon. He ultimately becomes Headmaster of Hogwarts in the final novel, after killing Dumbledore at the end of the sixth book. Snape himself dies at the hands of Voldemort in the final chapters of the seventh book, revealing his memories and true back story to Harry in his last minutes. • 13. On Tuesday morning, you get to work early so you could enjoy a little time to yourself before the bell rings and your students start to rush in the classroom. You have your coffee and everything else that you needed ready for the day. A couple of your students have been misbehaving in the classroom, and talking to the parents or guardian didn't help at all. The way it has been going you came up with your own plan to help them learn about character traits. Character traits are all the aspects of a person's behavior and attitudes that make up that person's personality. They are words used to describe how characters' act during certain situations or what kind of people they are. Character traits are sometimes described as good or bad, and everyone has them. Good character traits are what every parent wants for their kids. We all know and believe that this can set them up for good, healthy, successful and happy lives. To begin with, the first charactertrait is honesty. Honesty and truthfulness to self and to others makes you a reliable individual. It is an important character trait to instill in children. All students will benefit from learning about honesty, earning trust and trusting in others. It really requires a lot of courage, respect, responsibility, and good judgment from others. It is the foundation to building a legacy of virtue. It includes what you say, and it also includes the things that you don't say. Honest individual sleeps well and has better odds of being Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. My Character Essay My character has both opened and closed many doors for me in life. Most of the time you will see that I'm very laid back and relaxed. Independence is one of my key qualities. I never like to bother people with my problems because ultimately they're not always going to be there for you. I roam around in silence; being loud and obnoxious is not something that has ever given me much success in life. I try to conquer a healthy and happy lifestyle, but you know how that usually goes. I am pretty athletic I believe because I have put in so much hard work and dedicated even more time to football throughout my eighteen years of life. My life experiences have given me a rebellious trait. For example, whenever I get yelled at in football by Coach...show more content... I didn't have a great childhood, mainly growing up around drugs, gangs, and gunshots every night, but when I got older my friends were the ones who saved me from all that madness by taking me into their arms and drifting me away from the wrong crowds. Now, I go back and see them and they're those people I thought they would never be. Drugs run far in the public schools of Massachusetts now that I realize it, a lot of my friends are now heavy drug addicts. When you think of drugs in high school, you think of the basic marijuana, but that's not the case. They are doing the real deal, which are heroin and cocaine. They've been sucked into a dark abyss where I can't save them, not because I don't know how, which I do know, but because I'm so far away that what I say over text or social media to them won't ever be enough to try to change their mind. I just wish that one day they realize what wrong they are doing and seek help, come back to the reality of life instead of trying to escape through the imagination world drugs take you to. I guess the only good outcome from all this is the lessons I learn from my family and friends. Seeing their wrong doings have given me a good sense of what to do in life and what not to do, and that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Demonstrate Outstanding Character I think that in order to demonstrate outstanding character, one must try to do their best and strive endlessly to make their goals and aspirations. A time when I demonstrated outstanding character was during my time as President of Model United Nations my Junior year of high school. Although I've been President for three years now, that year marked my hiatus as a President since with my leadership and guidance we won a Conference. I felt successful in winning a Model UN Conference as well as qualifying for State Varsity Congressional Congress in Speech and Debate. As President of a Delegation, I had taken the roles of both an educator, accountant, and event coordinator while managing to be a student as the same time. • 16. What Is A Good Character Essay What is character? Character is something that is hard to explain. It is who we are, the way we act, and the kind of person we truly are and want to be. Character is what you are in the dark. But if character is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter? Character matters because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always watching us and the way we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it is our job to constantly be a role model of good character. A couple of ways that we can show our character are through gratitude and respect, but we can also look up to others, such as Benjamin Franklin, as role models for good character. Showing gratitude towards others is a great way to express good character. Being thankful and showing appreciation for those in our lives helps us strengthen our character and show others the good in ourselves. Being grateful is also a way of being humble and allowing others to see that we don't think we are better than them. Gratitude can sometimes be hard to find, but there are many ways to show how grateful we are. Thank you cards, gift baskets, personal thank you's, gifts, and small acts of kindness are great ways to show the people in our lives that we...show more content... Johnny didn't show any good traits till the end of the movie when radio apologize to johnny for getting him in trouble and johnny patted him on the back and walked away smiling. Another time johnny showed good traits was after the basketball game when johnny said bye to radio, and told his dad he was wrong about radio and that radio wasn't the problem his dad was. Johnny showed bad traits when he tied radio up and locked him in the equipment room and had the team through footballs at the equipment room to scare radio. Johnny tricked radio into going into the girl's locker room. A bad trait about johnny's dad is that he judged radio for being "retarded" without getting to know him as a friendly person. Coach jones showed that he cared for radio when he gave him some of his water during practice. Coach jones showed fairness when he made the whole team run for being mean to radio even though not everyone was mean to radio. • 18. Character Reflection Generally, literature imitates life; the authors write about the tragic consequences of covetous lifestyles to provoke readers. Consequently, after being inspired from these works, readers become enraged and demand a moral change in their lives. Of course, these realizations are built on the belief that their lives are filled with too much selfishness so they must become gratified. However, these moral transformations occur and are unsuccessful because people do not change. While I emphasize this belief of mine, I must point out: one's moral beliefs, their character, their principles, their truths, all do not change. Moreover, people's lifestyles, appearance, thoughts, and behaviors do transform as they grow. Once faced with idolization, one will learn of other's true and immutable character. What one owns, how they spend their time, and who they associate themselves with, shows one's indisputable nature. Regardless if an opulent possession was being earned or given, the novelty will reveal one's true and unchanging character. While I was participating in a ski race as a young teen, I came off the pitch, accelerated through the flats, and came through the last gate to the finish. The run was perfect; except I went around the wrong side of the end gate. Because of the high level of competition at this particular race, I would have thought someone would have caught this fortuity; but no spectator contradicted my performance. • 19. Character, Morals, Integrity Essay Character, Morals, Integrity Morals, character, integrity, what do these words mean....actually, the question is, do you have them. A man named Dwight Moody once said, "Character is what you are in the dark." You cannot see your morals, character, or integrity, these are only shown as your values. Someone could only show their own values, which are very important to themselves and everyone else. Integrity is the firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values. The way you show your integrity, character, and morals or how they are effect you in either a negative or positive way. There are many causes to how your values are. So as you know, integrity is very important and it is important to have it. First of...show more content... Laura stated, "integrity effects you by either being honest or not. If you are honest, then you have integrity. People who say that they are going to do something do it." You can now see that character, morals, and integrity are very important. Secondly, people may think that their values may not affect them, but they're wrong, they affect them a lot. Since character describes how you are and what your moral strengths are, having bad character could make people dislike you because of how you are. On the other hand, if you have good character, then more people would see how good of a person you are and even more people would like you. Morals sort of describe the way you make decisions, so having bad morals could guide your life down the drain, while having good morals could guide your life minute by minute toward noble goals. Integrity is also very important. Having bad integrity could make you very non–trustworthy to others. Having good integrity would make you very trustworthy to others. Knowing how important they are, you should always have good or even better character, morals, and integrity. Also, there are many causes for how your character, morals, and integrity are. One cause could of course be yourself. By hanging out with the right people and making good decisions, you could have good values. Yet hanging out with the wrong people and making bad decisions would be having bad values. Another cause may Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. What Is The Shaping Of My Character In my first essay "The Shaping of My Character" it was a narrative so, it was easier to write this because it was all about my experiences. I wrote it on the Golden Rule and how just witnessing cruelty let me know, that wasn't how I wanted to be. The rule facilitated the women I am today. The essay made me think about a friend I haven't thought about in years. Annie's situation helped me follow the rule "treat others how you want to be treated." Looking back at the essay I could have elaborated on some parts. Development is a fault of mine; I will keep working on that. My topic sentence could've been better. In my second essay "Excessive Force the Ugly Truth," I focused on the term excessive force. I was able to recreate a formal definition Get more content on HelpWriting.net
