BILL GATES
VS
STEVE JOBS
Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are the two biggest
entrepreneurs and inspirations of the Digital
Revolution, the ones who’s battle dominated the new
age and brought the dreams of the forerunners about
the digitalized future to life.
The strange love-hate relationship between the two biggest
entrepreneurs and inspirations of the Digital Revolution,
began in the late 1970s when Microsoft was making most of
its money writing for Apple.
EARLY
LIFE
Early life of the
two warriors for
the digitalized
future was
drastically
different.
STEVE
JOBSBorn on February 24, 1955
in San Francisco. Steve
Job’s unwed parents
Joanne Schieble and
Abdulfattah Jandali put
him for adoption. Steve
was adopted by Paul and
Clara Jobs, a lower-
middle-class couple.
STEVE
JOBSDuring his college at
Reed, he attended a
calligraphy course
which fascinated him.
He later said the
course at Reed was
instrumental in Apple’s
multiple typefaces and
proportionally spaced
fonts.
STEVE
JOBSAfter dropping from
college he was hired at
the Young Video game
maker Atari.
BILL GATES
Bill Gates’ father
William Gates Sr. was
a senior lawyer, and
his mother, Mary,
served as an
executive for a major
bank.
BILL GATES
In 1968, he began
programming with
Paul Allen in the
computer center.
BILL GATES
He enrolled at
Harvard in 1963, but
dropped out soon to
pursue his business
at Microsoft with
Paul Allen.
BIRTH
OF THE
FIRMS
Steve and Bill were
successful to setup
the two firms Apple
and Microsoft
successfully the in
their early ages.
BIRTH OF
APPLE
On April 1, 1976, Apple
was born with the
partnership of Jobs, 21
and Steve Wozniak, 26
in Jobs’ family garage.
Wozniak conceived of
a series of
user-friendly personal
computers, with Jobs
in charge of
marketing.
BIRTH OF
APPLEOver the next years,
the digital industry
was revolution arised
with Apple.
BIRTH OF
APPLE
Because of its
beautiful package,
ease of use, and nifty
features, the Apple II
crushed most of its
competition and its
sales made the
Apple founders
millionaires.
BIRTH OF
APPLE
Despite his many
innovative successes
at Apple following
constant friction
between him and his
employees Job was
pushed to a
marginalized
position, he resigned
and left Apple in
1985.
FOUNDATION
OF MICROSOFT
In 1975, Bill Gates
and Paul Allen
formed Micro-Soft, a
blend of "micro-
computer" and
"software" (they
dropped the hyphen
within a year).
FOUNDATION
OF MICROSOFT
Their first product
was BASIC software
though it was
popular among the
computer hobbyists,
but resulted as not a
smooth sailing
product for the
company.
FOUNDATION
OF MICROSOFT
In 1979, the
company’s operations
shifted to Bellevue,
Washington. By then
the company was
grossing
approximately $2.5
million.
FOUNDATION
OF MICROSOFT
The big break came
when IBM, the
leading PC
manufacturer
approached them for
software for their
new computers.
Microsoft was able to
gain the position of
the leading Software
manufacturers.
LIFE
AFTER
APPLE
TO ITS
RETURN
After leaving
Apple in 1985,
Jobs began a
new hardware
and software
enterprise
called NeXT, Inc.
LIFE AFTER
APPLE TO ITS
RETURN
The company
floundered in its
attempts to sell its
specialized
operating system to
mainstream America.
It was bought by
Apple eventually in
1996 for $429 million.
LIFE AFTER
APPLE TO ITS
RETURN
In 1997, Jobs returned
to his post as Apple's
CEO. The company was
not doing well before
Steve joined and a
year later, the
company was at its
peak.
LIFE AFTER
APPLE TO ITS
RETURN
After inspired by the
success of Animations
in 1986, Jobs purchased
Pixar Animation
Studios from George
Lucas. Believing in
Pixar's potential, Jobs
initially invested $50
million of his own
money in the company.
LIFE AFTER
APPLE TO ITS
RETURN
The studio produced
popular movies like Toy
Story, Finding Nemo and
The Incredibles; Pixar's
films have collectively
netted $4 billion. Pixar
merged with Walt Disney
in 2006, making Steve
Jobs Disney's largest
shareholder.
BILL
AND
MELINDA
GATES
FOUNDATION
Married to Melinda
French in 1992.
Inspired by Bill
Rockerfield, Bill
with his wife
Melinda found The
Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation
and they got
involved
Philanthropic
activities.
BILL AND
MELINDA GATES
FOUNDATION
Founding Companies
Steve Jobs is the
founder of
Apple and Bill Gates
is the founder of
Microsoft.
BILL AND
MELINDA GATES
FOUNDATION
“I’m certainly well taken
care of in terms of food
and clothes,” he says,
redundantly. “Money has
no utility to me beyond a
certain point. Its utility is
entirely in building an
organization and getting
the resources out to the
poorest in the world.”
DIFFERENCES
BETWEEN BILL
GATES AND
STEVE JOBS
Both the
entrepreneurs
enlighted the
domain, they
were different
beings.
FOUNDING
COMPANIES
Steve Jobs is the
founder of Apple and
Bill Gates is the
founder of Microsoft.
MILIEU
Steve Jobs was adopted
and self-made, from a
humble family, while
Gates came from an
upper-middle-class
family.
INITIAL
STRUGGLE
The futuristic approach
did not lead Steve Jobs
to gain massive profits,
instead he went in debt
in the initial stages of
Apple. On the other
hand, with the success
of Windows Bill Gates
earned enormous
benefits.
APPROACH
Steve thought about
future in his
technologies, he
aimed for a more
accessible
future. Gates’ plan
was more realistic.
ETHOS
Steve Job had a
creative design
mindset. He created
demand and made life
easy. Gates’ was more
passionate about
numbers and created
as Operating System to
gain a position of
leading software
development
manufacturer
LEADERSHIP
STYLE
Steve Jobs was more of
an authoritarian in his
leadership style. He was
an autocrat who took
little or no inputs from
his team members. Bill
Gates on the contrary was
participative with his
employees and believed
in the value of their
inputs in the growth of
the company.
PERSONALITY
Steve Jobs was a
public speaker while
Bill Gates with
conversing
personality is more
reserved.
FORTUNE
OF THE
FIRMS
Apple and
Microsoft have
seen raises and
falls in the years.
Both are billion
dollar industries
today.
APPLE
On the first day of its
trade Apple hit the
market with $100
million in 1980.
Apple is the most
valuable public
company worth
$821.59 billion in
today’s time.
This statistic shows Apple's revenue (or total net sales) from 2004 to 2018,
according to the company's own financial years. In the 2018 financial year
(October 2017 to September 2018), Apple's revenue came to a total of
265.6 billion U.S. dollars.

MICROSOFT
Microsoft was
acclaimed as the
most valuable
company in 2018.
It crossed the
milestone of $1
Trillion in 2019.
Microsoft has been a
tough competitor of
Apple and is worth
$813.48 billion
today.
This statistic shows Microsoft's global revenue figures from the 2002 fiscal
year to the 2019 fiscal year. In FY2019, Microsoft generated 125.84 billion
U.S. dollars in revenue, a record year in terms of revenue for the company.

FORTUNE
OF THE
ENTREPRENEURS
The two kids
who setup their
firms in their
early 20s have
made it huge
today. They are
worth billions.
STEVE JOBS
Steve Jobs’ fortune
at the time of his
death was estimated
to be $ 10.2 billion in
2011. Had Steve not
dumped his 20%
stake of Apple in
1985 in anger he
would be worth $200
billion today and the
richest person on the
planet.
I NEVER DID IT FOR MONEY
STEVE JOBS
BILL GATES
At the age of 63, the
Founder of Microsoft
is the second richest
man on earth
and is estimated to
have a net worth of
$103.3 billion in
March 2019.
MONEY
MAY BE ABLE TO BUY
HAPPINESS AFTER ALL
BILL GATES
WHAT
IF?
What if..?
If Steve Jobs was
alive today, he would
be worth around $23
billion. Had Steve not
dumped his 20%
stake of Apple in 1985
in anger he would be
worth $200 billion
today and the
richest person on the
planet
REMEMBERING
STEVE
JOBS
The two had a strange
bitter sweet relationship.
Steve Jobs was
diagnosed with a
pancreatic
neuroendocrine tumor
and passed on October
5, 2011.
‘’Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and
have been colleagues, competitors and
friends over the course of more than half our
lives.’’
REMEMBERING STEVE JOBS
BILL GATES
'’For those of us lucky enough to get to work
with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will
miss Steve immensely.’’
