We wrote this book with the idea of solving a specific problem to the community… A pocketbook with several ideas of possible exercises for your retrospectives
The really cool for me about the book is that we got a lot of attention!!!
Having so much attention gave me the confidence that I needed to start another book on a topic that I wanted to touch for long time… and by the way the reason why I am here today in front of you ;)
And of course gave me access to a lot of brilliant people that are involved in this project
And because of this book I am here talking for your guys today
But Why this topic?
Simple because once uppon a time I was like you…
I was a software engineer, a test engineer, scrum master, agile coach

To learn you need to fail to fail you need to be safe!!!
How many of you had a salary or bonus attached to your performance appraisals and when it was not possible to receive the money you feel super punished like if you would have done something wrong
How many worked in companies where profits were crashing and senior management came up with excuses just to not give you the bonus to save money for shareholders
Tell the story of my that I was doing a lot of stuff, was delivering a lot of great things, I was helping a lot of people, but I was not following the targets that my old boss wanted… just got completely destroyed and stop caring with what people wanted and just started to do what she wanted

Two gentlemen called Frederick Winslow Taylor and Henry Ford completely changed the industry game at that time.
Society was Stable, Static and not Dynamic.
There was not much competition and the markets were slow
Companies could absorve in a better way the daily uncertainties of doing business using centralized and hierarchical organizations.
Managers were basically the gate keepers of all decisions and delegated the execution down to the workers.
Taylor explained that an organization worked like a machine. Small parts connected with each other to create a bigger part
These people were under close supervision by their superiors who enforced compliance using punishments or extrinsic rewards.
This was called the manufacturing era.
The pace of today’s society is unpredictably fast and chaotic.
The predictability from other times is not present anymore.
today most of the jobs are in services, making most of today’s workers knowledge workers instead of manual, manufacturing workers.
Organisations must be fast, must innovate and must adapt to their customer needs.
Decisions cannot be made in centrally anymore, this would be too slow and not efficient for companies.
In order to solve these problems, companies need to trust on their employees allowing them to decide what is the best for the customer and help them to solve their problems.
This requires companies to self-empower people and give them freedom to enable them to decide what is the best for the current environment.
