Hawthorne Fred Meyer hopes to be the first LEED Certified grocery store in Oregon and the first for the Kroger
Co. chain of 2,500 stores. Fred Meyer’s Hawthorne location is celebrating its $17 million investment in the
community and is striving to meet Silver LEED Certification standards for the U.S. Green Building Council. In
addition to the many sustainable features-from reducing energy consumption to using a variety of recycled
materials-the store offers a variety of ready-to-eat meals and an extensive selection of local and organic
products.
