1. In honor of Mrs. Horning, Brecknock’s Kindergarten classes and 1st and 2nd grades will be
collecting items to make school kits for children of impoverished families.
School kits are given:
*to refugee or displaced children
*to children after natural disasters
*or to families who struggle to afford basic school supplies
School Kits
Each school kit contains the following items:
4 spiral notebooks (8.5x10.5in, about 70 sheets-not much larger)
4 unsharpened pencils
1 ruler (flat, flexible, plastic, indicating both 30cm and 12in)
12 colored pencils in package (just 12 )
1 large pencil eraser
You may donate either an entire school kit or supplies to be used in a kit. Special thanks to
the Bowmansville Mennonite Sewing Circle for providing the sewn bags for the kits.
School kit items should be brought to school by May 14th.
Mrs. Hornings’s Legacy
When you shop for the school kit items, we encourage you to take your child along and to
explain to them how precious these kits will be to the children who receive them. Those
conversations with your child will truly honor the memory of Mrs. Horning and bring meaning
to the motto she created… “Because Brecknock Cares”.
