1. This image shows male rock band The Arctic Monkeys. The mid-shot is in black and

aren’t looking directly at the camera and two of them appear to be looking at the
floor. They appear to be outdoors on a street and the men are all wearing casual
clothes like jackets and scarves. The image is generally very laid back and appears
completely natural and un-posed. This is stereotypical of this genre of rock/indie as
it is non-pretentious and relaxed, suggesting that there is a lack of interest and a
rebellious attitude.

men sat on chairs looking directly at the camera they are sat in a relaxed fashion
and are resting their elbowsin their laps and leaning forward. They are all wearing
casual clothing and all have the long hair styles that are stereotypical of this genre.
There is high key lighting and a brown/grey background which makes the image
look very informal as the surroundings are very basic, which makes the band the
focus of the image. They are all looking directly into thecamera and their facial
expressions are relaxed perhaps confused as they appear to be concentrating on
something.

2. This image of girl group Little Mix is a long shot which shows the four
girls sat next to one another on stools. The background of the image is
bright blue and the costumes worn are all brightly coloured, using some
colours which clash. The girls are posing in their seats and high key
lighting is used in order to highlight their youth. This picture is
stereotypical of a girl group as the girls are all posing and looking directly
at the camera and not smiling.
This image of pop singer Katy Perry shows the singer in a black and
white close up shot. She is looking just past the camera and her
expression is relatively serious. She looks like she is wearing a towel
and her hair is voluminous and curly. She appears to be wearing a lot
of makeup and the image is accentuating her appearance. This image
is stereotypical of Katy Perry’s genre as it is posed and image
conscious.

3. This image is of male pop singer Justin Timberlake. The close-up image is shot
against a white background and is black and white. He has his head tilted with
his eyes squinted which makes the image appear more natural and less posed.
This breaks the stereotype of a pop star’s photo-shoot which would
stereotypically be a posed photograph. He is wearing a black tuxedo with a
black dickey bow which makes his general appearance more formal and
sophisticated, perhaps suggesting he has developed from his previous image as
a young popstar.
This image is of rapper Kanye West. The close up shot is shot against a black
background and is taken in black and white. Kanye appears to be putting his
jacket on and is holding it at his chest. The lighting is low-key which changes
the mood of the image to more dark and serious. He is looking directly at
the camera with a serious expression, which is stereotypical of the rap
genre. However his costume breaks the stereotype of his genre as despite
the fact that he is wearing a hoodie it is covered in glitter which suggests
that he is fashion conscious.

4. This image shows singer Rihanna posing in
high-key lighting mid-shot and looking
directly at the camera. The singer is
dressed stereotypically of her R&B/pop
genre, by wearing a revealing out fi that
has noticeable designer labels, e.g.
‘Chanel’. Rihanna is posing in a male pose
with her hand inside her trousers. Her
other hand is on her hip and she is licking
her lips and looking directly at the camera.
Her stance in conjunction with her short
hair gives the image an androgynous look.
She is also wearing a headband and gold
hoop earring which are stereotypical of
her genre.
This image of pop star Ariana Grande uses a
pale pink background and high key lighting
to emphasise her youthful and feminine
image. She appears to be jumping in the air;
looking directly at the camera and holding
on to the end of her hair which makes her
look young and energetic. She is wearing
brightly coloured clothing that clashes
fashionably such as a bright pink sparkly top
and a bright yellow skirt. Her hair is long
and curly and appears to be bouncing in the
air. This image is stereotypical of a pop
singer as it is youthful and highlights her
age and gender, and the theme of the
image is playful and colourful.

5. This image shows singer/songwriter
Beyoncé, in a medium-close up shot looking
directly into the camera. The fact that her
face and upper torso fills the frame shows
that she is the main focus of the image and
her body is covered in multi-coloured glitter
and paint. Her hair is short and therefore
the focus is on her face, which also features
high key lighting in contrast to the low key
lighting behind her. Her face is
expressionless adding to the simplicity of
the image. The main focus of the
photograph is Beyoncé’s face and the
different colours of the glitter. She is
wearing brightly coloured makeup which
fits the colour scheme and her whole head
is covered in orange glitter.
This image of American rapper Jay-Z uses
a mid-shot and high-key lighting which
breaks the stereotype of the usual image
of a rapper. Another aspect of the image
which breaks the stereotype of rap is the
fact that Jay-Z is wearing a formal black
suit rather than typical R&B rapper style.
He is also smiling and appears warm and
friendly, another opposition to the usual
stereotype that rappers are moody and
intimidating. The image is taken against
a white background and Jay Z is posing
naturally and looking directly at the
camera.
