2. A lawyer is a person who practices law, as an advocate,
counselor, counsellor, counselor at law, solicitor, or
public servant preparing, interpreting and/or applying
law, but not as a paralegal or charter executive
secretary. Working as a lawyer involves the practical
application of abstract legal theories and knowledge to
solve specific individualized problems, or to advance
the interests of those who hire lawyers to perform legal
services.
3. To practice this profession in Portugal requires a
degree in Law (3 years) and an internship lasting 18
months in the Order of Lawyers.
The internship is divided in 2 parts:
The most theoretical initial part that ends with
evaluation through written exams.
The second part is more practical which includes
going to trial hearings by the trainee lawyer. This
phase ends with an oral evaluation.

4. To become a lawyer in Portugal you must:
have a good analytical capacity.
evaluate and assimilate facts and situations quickly.
be able to speak clearly and fluently so as to reason
easily.
be confident and able to inspire confidence and not
allow prejudices to affect his activity.
Ideally, you should have too a broad cultural
background based on knowledge from several areas,
and it is therefore appropriate to be constantly
updated.
