“IMMIGRANTS FIND NEW HOMES”
Objective:
3.1 Recognizes that immigrants come from countries around the
world to make a new home and bring their beliefs, traditions and
social practices.
ACTIVATING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE-INTRODUCE VOCABULARY
Connect Science with Social Studies: compare immigrants with migrator animals:
problems they face, why they migrate to other places, parents or ancestors who
are immigrant in our city.
ACTIVITIES TO DO IN CLASS
Talk about holidays in different cultures and countries.
Table manners in different countries.
Birthday celebrations and traditions in different countries.
INTERVIEW RAQUEL LIBEROW GOLDBERG
Students ask Raquel questions about her Jewish religion and culture, traditions and
customs.
Students compare their culture and traditions with Raquel’s .

2. Do an interview
Here’s your chance to talk to an immigrant.
1. Choose a person who is an immigrant or
whose his/her ancestors are Jewish, American,
Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Spanish, French, etc.
2. Prepare a list of questions to ask and the
answers, such as, reasons to settle in this
country, traditions/customs of their own
country, holidays they celebrate, beliefs, etc.
3. Choose who will play this person and who will
play a news reporter.
4. Present the interview to your class.

Choose a person who is an immigrant or whose ancestors are
immigrants to talk with. Write and draw to let others know
about this person.

Básico: Prepares fewer than 4 questions and answers. Shows minimal
understanding of the interview process and the importance of
diversity in a community.
Bajo: Prepares vague questions and/or error. Shows no
understanding of the interview process and the importance of
diversity in a community.
