while Sydney is the finance capital of Australia with
around 40% of this talent pool, financial professionals
are most in demand in Perth, evidence the mining and
energy boom’s impact is having knock on effects.
•	 There are over 94,000 financial professionals
throughout Australia, in audit, accounting and
analysis functions
•	 Sydney is the most predominant region for this
talent pool, with almost 40,000 members
•	 Demand is lagging in Melbourne and Adelaide,
with a member in Perth, 2-3 times more likely to be
approached by a recruiter
•	 Strategy skills are most in demand, along with
merger and acquisition experience and as a sign of
the economic environment, corporate restructuring
and risk management are also sought after

Overview
LinkedIn data can be used to evaluate the supply and
demand profile of talent pools. Our data shows that
there is disparity in the demand amongst the various
regions in Australia for financial services talent. The
majority of this talent pool resides in Sydney, Melbourne
and Brisbane. A higher demand index means that
the average professional in a region is receiving more
contact from recruiters than peers in other regions.
