• All work presented was created during courses taught by C. Stephenson-Gibbs, and
presented to provide an insight into the scope of educational experience of the instructor.

• As an educator, I am always learning from my students and it is thru their creativity and
insight that one is literally seeing the world with new sight and understanding. Just when
you think there is not another solution to a design problem that has been given a student
will find a unique and innovative project which inspires not only peers but tenured faculty.
• The projects presented herein encompass a diverse selection of disciplines from
printmaking, design and drawing to photography and summer art camps over the course
of ten years as an art educator at public and private institutions with students in
kindergarten thru graduate-level art programs.
• Many thanks to all of my students for their enthusiasm and creative problem solving!
DRAWING
• Drawing: Grid Technique and Abstract Portraiture
PRINTMAKING
• Studio course for beginning students provided a range of techniques and methods.
• Self Portrait project where each student created a print which reflected their interests, hobbies,
beliefs, in any of the methods or techniques learned throughout the semster.
• Landscape Project – student depicts a real or imaginary landscape, cityscape or seascape.
• Contrast and Compare Project : Students used two different printmaking techniques to create a print of
the same composition to explore how the method may be used to enhance or impact the design.
DESIGN
Plaster of paris sculpture
• Transformational Planes Project:
Each student selected an object which was
then re-created to scale using foamcore.
Addition of color was optional but requirement
was that color scheme was primary, secondary,
warm/cool or achromatic.
BRICK PROJECT
• Student was given a common brick and assignment was to give the object “content” or meaning which
would be incorporated into a design using the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Project included a
preliminary sketch, orthographic drawing and final presentation.
• Monochromatic Color Project
• Book Projects – ECU Design 1 Final Project
• Light Project-ECU Design final project
DESIGN 2
• Chairs – Final project for course. Included in the assignment was the initial concept
sketch, orthographic design, budget, construction and a three minute presentation which
demonstrated the functionality and content.

GENERAL ART
(NON-ART MAJORS)
• Collage Project
IN THE STYLE OF NEVELSON
• Project focused on American
artist, Louise Nevelson, and
incorporated the Principle of
Design known as balance
(symmetrical, asymmetrical or
radial) and “found” materials
glued onto 10”x10” cardboard
“tiles”. Two different tiles were
required from each student
which were then grouped
together to form a single unit
which was spray painted either
black, white or gold.
