1. Vendors are people too
2. Vendors have other customers 
besides you
3. Understand your requirements 
and be ready to share
4. Show them you’re willing to 
help them
5. know how you will measure and 
assess the effectiveness of the Vendor
6. Don’t threaten to leave/switch 
unless you’re serious
7. Increase quantities by combining 
years or products
8. Always establish a terms of 
service/contract end date
9. You rarely have complete 
decision making power
10. Don’t forget the other things 
that make life easy

• Don’t forget training or support 
• Don’t forget to get the organizational structure 
and ask what the escalation paths are 
• Don’t forget to start negotiations with the poor

  • 6. 3. Understand your requirements and be ready to share
  • 7. 4. Show them you’re willing to help them
  • 8. 5. know how you will measure and assess the effectiveness of the Vendor
  • 9. 6. Don’t threaten to leave/switch unless you’re serious
  • 10. 7. Increase quantities by combining years or products
  • 11. 8. Always establish a terms of service/contract end date
  • 12. 9. You rarely have complete decision making power
  • 13. 10. Don’t forget the other things that make life easy • Don’t forget project start and end dates • Don’t forget training or support • Don’t forget to get the organizational structure and ask what the escalation paths are • Don’t forget to start negotiations with the poor card
