2. When did this all start?
• Tracking down the first abandon
house is not really possible to do
seeing as there was probably always a
house left abandoned when the
owners either moved or died.

3. Latyshia’s story
• There is this house on my block that
was abandoned when I moved there.
But then it was renovated and a
family of about 10 moved in, they
lived there for three years, and after
one of them was killed the family
moved and now the house is boarded
up.

5. Christen’s story
• There is this property on my block
that was not always abandoned. There
was this guy that used to live there
but he was forced to leave because the
building was falling apart.

6. In Philadelphia, there are an estimated 26,000
vacant homes.

The surrender, relinquishment, disclaimer, or
cession of property or of rights. Voluntary
relinquishment of all right, title, claim, and
possession, with the intention of not reclaiming it.

9. Knock it down it down,
• and deal with the empty spaces.

10. Fix it up,
• and try to sell it.

11. or do nothing
• and watch the property value
decrease.

12. Every year, the city of Philadelphia destroys about
1,000 homes that can't be salvaged, even as an equal
number are freshly abandoned.
