of Krithika Bala and

over coffee, pondering
over the myriad of
practical problems
that women face today!
In the course of this
conversation, they
realized that there
could be such a simple

faced where public
toilets are concerned!
Why must all women
go through such an
ordeal just to relieve
themselves? They just

had called Father of

Sruuthi to be taken
straight to Prasad

Maestro Ilayaraja’s
song recording by 4
PM.
Little did we least
imagine that S. Sruuthi
would be asked to sing
a full length Children’s
song that too in an
un-known “Kannada
Language” although
she had sung songs like
“Baghiyadha lakshmi
bhaarama” in Kannada
and several songs of
Saint Thyagarajar
A n n a m a c h a r y a r ’ s
krithis in Telugu,
Marati Bajans and
in other languages.
The Director had
explained the meaning
of Bhombay mean Toy,
Jinkue mean breeze,
etc.
As the song rehearsals
for 2 songs were going
on right under the
nose of Ilayaraja ,
the Director of this
film titled “RAJU’S
MEDAL” asked the S.
SHIVPPRASADH and
his wife Rama after
coming to know that
we are S. Sruuthi’s
parents as to whether
we would permit her to
act the main role in that
children Film. When
asked about the film
subject the director Ms.
NANDITHA said it was
a pure children’s film
aimed at “eradicating
child marriage”.
Striking memories
came flashing to me
“As based on a detailed
interview published
in The Hindu by the
then Editor-in-Chief of
The Hindu Mr. N. Ram
with the then Hon’ble
president of India Smt.
Prathiba Devi Singh
Patel” on various social
evils ‘Eradication of
Child Marriage’ was
topping as one among
them and the slogan
coined and highlighted
by The then President
was “One Child
Marriage has ten Ill

Based on The Hindu’s
publication S. Sruuthi

on the Evils of Child

her to have a personal
meeting with the Then

Director Ms. Nanditha
who had done a
photo shoot of S.
Sruuthi in nativity
costume and made
her act with Kannada
dialogues delivery was
fully impressed and
approved to cast her
in this film as a victim
of child marriage but
parents yet to decide
as her drama date
on 01.10.2015 seem
to clash with her
film shooting dates.
However they have
promised to adjust the
same and if done so
she will be fruitfully
using her holidays from

unsafe blood
transfusion can lead
to serious diseases
too! With the increase
in TTI’s (Transfusion
T r a n s m i t t e d
Infections), ensuring
safe blood transfusion
has become of utmost
importance for the
medical fraternity.
Working towards
its commitment of
keeping patients safety
on priority, SIMS
Hospital, Chennai
has introduced ID-
NAT (Individual
Donor Nucleic Acid
Test) for screening of
blood. The ID-NAT
Lab was inaugurated
on 9th September by
Dr Sridhar, Pro Vice
Chancellor of SRM
University; which was
followed by a Seminar
on Transfusion
Transmitted Infection.
Dr Anand Deshpande
from P.D Hinduja
Hospital, Mumbai, Dr
Nidhi Mehta from KDA
Hospital, Mumbai and
Dr Ram Prabhakar
from SIMS Hospital,
Chennai spoke on
the importance of Safe
blood transfusion as
well as role of ID-NAT in
reducing TTI instances.
ID-NAT is the
next generation
advancement in blood
safety. It detects HIV,
HBVandHCVinfections
in blood at a very early
stage compared to
conventional tests like
ELISA. While, ELISA
will take up to 90 days
to detect the viruses,
ID-NAT can do so in as
low as 2 days.
Due to early
detection, ID-NAT
helps in reducing
risk of transfusion
through infected blood
significantly.
Risk of TTI’s increases
even more for patients
requiring regular
blood transfusions:
like Thalassemia,
Sickle cell anaemia or
Cancer patients.One
unit of blood can be
given to 3 persons in
components, and if the
blood is contaminated
it can risk 3 lives at
once. Countries like
US, France, Japan,
Singapore, Australia
have made NAT
mandatory for blood
screening. With the
increasing numbers
of TTI’s there is an
urgent requirement
on making ID-NAT a
mandate and hospitals
like SIMS Hospital
have taken a much
required step towards
the direction of blood
safety.

ART OF LIVING
WORKSHOPS FOR PARENTSSpace Kidz India had
launched a “Neare
Space Vehicle’ for the
1st time in India by a
private organization on
Aug. 23 to read the Air
Quality, Altitude, Gases
around near Space
etc at the campus of
Hindustan University,
Padur.
Dr. Srimathy Kesan the
Director, Space Kidz
India said that this was
a dream last 2years
when it all started with
the competition that
SKI conducts year on
year for High School
students - The Young
Scientist India, one of
the participant Rifath
Sharook, harped on
an idea of a sending
a student Sattellite in
space.
Rifath is from a small
town, Pallampatti
close to Dindigul.
Though this idea
was not appreciated
by many, Rifath and
Dr.Srimathy Kesan
kept talking about
this for 2years,
approached many
research institutions
for support, but, was
brushed away by them
as a fancy idea and not
a workable model, but,
the twp determined to
realize this dream by
tweaking the model
and sending a vehicle
if not to Space at least
close to Space and
started to work on the
vehicle to be used.
Educators at NASA,
and Prof'z at the
University of Central
Florida also helped
tweaking and put all
this together.
A balloon of 1200g size
was finalized, Helium
gas as the fuel, attached
to a Parachute and a
Payload box with 10
sensors was designed,
fixed and ready to
launch on the 23rd
August at 11:00Hrs.
Anand Jacob Verghese,
a visionary, PRO
Chancellor, of the
Hindustan University,
appreciated the concept
and jumped to support
us for this mission.
The nine students from
Hindustan University
joined the mission
as Crew members
Yagna Sai, Vinay,
Tanishq, Vinyas, Nitin,
Debanjana, Mohammed
Kaasif, Ranga Says, Sai
Dharshan, along with
Prof. Kirubakaran, Aero
Space Dept.

permissions from the
State Govt, Collector
K a n c h i p u r a m , S P
office Kanchipuram,
ATS Tambaram,
ATC Chennai Airport
Authority of India,
DGCA, Civil Aviation
Ministry were sorted.
On the 23rd August
2015, finally the
mission took off, the
vehicle beautifully
travelled Near Space
and the Balloon busted
at a high altitude after
which the parachute
brought down the
Payload box with
sensors. The payload
box landed in a Field
at Kuthunur, near
Kanchipuram. The
retrieval team of
students went to that
place and brought
back the box. The data
has been collected and
shall be put up on
different medium for
students to see and
study. This is the 1st
of itz kind launch in
India.A perfect tribute
to the great Scientist S.
APJ Abdul Kalam.
