2. Case study (1)
Gemma is five and a half and attends her local school.
She is an extremely anxious child who clings to her mother when
brought in the morning. Gemma is quiet and often appears quite
fearful about expressing her needs.
Gemma's mother Tracy tells you that she is pulling her hair out in
chunks and is very quiet and withdrawn at home. She does not even
seem to want to watch her favorite programmes on TV. Her sister is
angry with her because she is getting all the attention ever since she
was born when she had suspected meningitis.

3. Case Study 2
Mohammed is thirteen, and has always been a slightly
anxious child.
On starting secondary school, he seemed to withdraw
totally into himself, finding it increasingly difficult to
communicate with other children and teaching staff. He
continually looks sleepy and everyday is starting to look
thinner but you just think you might be imagining things.
At times though he shows his emotions very differently
and has angry and aggressive outbursts, which has led to
him being excluded for short periods.
His parents have refused to come into school to talk to you.
