What are measuring tools?

     are devices, gadgets or equipments used as aid in
    finding such exact numerical values of a certain object.
   These are usually made up of either synthetic or
    natural materials.
   Are calibrated with the standards of measurements to
    provide precise and accurate results.
   Mostly are used in several purposes while others are
    only for a specific function.
Examples:

   Rulers,
    triangles,
    protractors
    and more.
What do they measure?
   Length
   Time
   Mass
   Temperature
   Electric Current
   Amount of Substance
   Volume
   Density
   Light Intensity
Things to consider in using the
                tools:
   Accuracy – the state of being accurate (the result
    obtained with respect to the given standard).
   Precision – being precise (the result obtained from a
    series of trials, the closeness of the average result with
    respect to the given standard).
   User’s capacity and familiarity – implied on both the
    teacher as well as the learners readiness and the ease in
    using the tools.
   Standard of Measurement – this refers to the units that
    are calibrated and set by an international governing
    body. Today, the SI units (improved version of metric
    system) and the English system (known also as Imperial
    system) are used as standards for the equivalence of
    measurements.
Functions

   Aid the learners in attaining precise and accurate
    results in measuring the objects which are related to
    their topics.
   Serve as motivator as well as a facilitator for the
    students in their learning processes involving
    measurements.
Advantages

   Saves time and effort with respect to the topic to be
    presented
   Brings the students to the real situation much easier
    yet provides enough fun
   Helps the users to understand more about the
    complex concepts
   Very much accessible to most of the learners
Disadvantages

   Some measuring tools require much time and effort
    for them to yield the accurate and precise results.
   Others maybe to large or to small to be used in
    measuring objects.
   Amount and the availability of some tools requires
    considerable finances as well as the handling of these
    tools often requires great caution.
Guidelines

   Right tool for right object.
   For much complex types of tools, teacher is advised to be
    the only person to use and perform to avoid any accident.
   Start always from simple tools then to the complex ones
    later same with the degrees for measurement.
   Both measuring tools and the objects to be measured should
    be prepared and tested by teacher ahead the teaching time
    for convenience as well as to prevent waste of time and
    effort.
Criteria For Evaluation

   Is/are the measuring tool/s needed for the discussion
    available enough for the students to acquire?
   Are there other substitute tools that can be used in
    case the primary tool/s is/are not present and still
    yield the same result required?
   Is it the right tool to be used for the specific object?
   Can both the teacher and the students able to
    manipulate well the tools to be used?
   Do measuring tools are really needed in the
    discussion? Or is there any relevance of the use of
    these devices with the lesson to be discussed?
   And if there are measuring tools that need
    considerable amount of money and effort, would the
    use of these tools justify the rendered time and money
    to acquire the said tools?
   How’s the condition of the tools that are to be used?

Guidelines  Right tool for right object.  For much complex types of tools, teacher is advised to be the only person to use and perform to avoid any accident.  Start always from simple tools then to the complex ones later same with the degrees for measurement.  Both measuring tools and the objects to be measured should be prepared and tested by teacher ahead the teaching time for convenience as well as to prevent waste of time and effort.

Criteria For Evaluation  Is/are the measuring tool/s needed for the discussion available enough for the students to acquire?  Are there other substitute tools that can be used in case the primary tool/s is/are not present and still yield the same result required?  Is it the right tool to be used for the specific object?  Can both the teacher and the students able to manipulate well the tools to be used?
