1. Mitosis

of cell division.

2. Preparation
Start by laying the string circle flat on the table in a “cell like” shape.

3. Preparation
Add the chromosomes – 1 yellow string and 1 red string
(note – there are more than this, but for explanation purposes, we shall
keep it simple)

Add the Centrioles
(note – these are MUCH LARGER than normal for demonstration
purposes)

5. INTERPHASE
The cell remains in this phase as it carries out normal life processes.
DNA is replicated before the division process begins. Chromosomes
change to sister chromatids at the end of this phase.

6. PROPHASE
Sister Chromatids are present. Centrioles appear and begin to move to
opposite ends of cell. Spindle fibers form between the poles.

7. METAPHASE
Sister chromatids line up along the center of the cell. They attach to the
spindle fibers.

8. ANAPHASE
Sister Chromatids separate and are pulled toward cell edges. They move
toward the opposite ends of the cell.

9. TELOPHASE
New nucleus forms at each end of the dividing cell. Mitosis is ending.

10. CYTOKINESIS
The rest of the cell contents divided between 2 daughter cells. Cell
membrane moves inward to create two cells, each with its own nucleus
and identical chromosomes.

11. New cell is formed and the process begins again.
