Opening Credits Sequence - Evaluation Question 1
1. Question 1: In what ways does your
media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
2. • Through our opening credits, we attempted to challenge the
traditional convention of class and status of social order.
• We did this by reversing the roles of stereotypical characters –
the main character wearing a suit is the murderer, therefore
challenging the perception that as he is wearing a suit he is a
typical middle class working man. On the other hand, his
victim is wearing baggy clothes, reversing the stereotype that
would usually surround this character.
3. • However, we also tried to use the idea of gangsters and
organised crime by developing the convention surrounding
these social groups. We aimed for our OCS to imitate and
have similarities to the real media products we based our
production on such as ‘Goodfellas’, ‘This is England’ and
several others, and managed to develop them by adding a
slight psychotic feel to the main character.
4. • Last of all, we managed to use the existing conventions in
obvious ways, seeing as at some periods during our
production there were no alterations to the intended
personalities of the two characters. We used these
conventions of Gangsters, horror and organised crime to
base our OCS on.
