6. 6. Quote

We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Incorporated! To be in business today is to be Head Marketer of the brand called “You”.

- Tom Peters

 7. 7. You are CEO

Luqman Obileye does NOT work for Habib Nigeria Bank Plc, Mr. Mohsin Aziz, nor Dr. (Mrs.) Mutiat Obileye. I work for ME!

 8. 8. You are CEO

Landing a job is a lot like selling a product. You must demonstrate to t he "buyer" that your product (the total of your education, skills, experience, personality, character, etc.) is more valuable than another candidate's and that "you" are worth a certain price or salary.

 9. 9. The Brand Called You Incorporated
 10. 10. Branding Yourself

Self branding is important for both job seekers and those already employed.

In fact, anyone hoping to find professional success must think about brand "Me" and just what this brand looks and sounds like.

 11. 11. Branding Yourself

Just as you choose one detergent brand over another because of its performance and reputation, hiring managers and supervisors make their decisions about you based on your past performance, professional reputation, how you present yourself, and how enthusiastic you are to get the job done.

 12. 12. 4 Steps to Branding

Step 1: Define Your Brand. You can't sell a brand you aren't familiar with, so your first step must b e defining what makes you the professional you are.

 13. 13. 4 Steps to Branding

Why a re you unique? (who are you?)

What are your talents? (what do you stand for?)

What would make someone choose you over another worker? (how do you perform?)

 14. 14. Step 2: Determine Your Objectives.

Every branding manager starts by setting goals.

What do you want to achieve throughout your time with y our company, or throughout your career?

Where do you see yourself in 10 ye ars, and where would you like to see yourself?

Are you on the right path?.

 15. 15. Step 2: Determine Your Objectives.

Take a serious look at your career and direction, and set attainable objectives.

Maybe your goal is to receive a promotion to a management position this year

Perhaps you want to make a career change t o a new industry.

 16. 16. Step 2: Determine Your Objectives.

Whatever it is, determine if your brand message, that i s your experience, skills and reputation, will help you achieve your goals.

 17. 17. Step 3: Increase Your Visibility

What can you do to make yourself more visible? How about volunteering to participate in a big project at work?

What about joining a special events planning committee, or just speaking up at a meeting where some of the powerful executives in your company a re in attendance? Think of your goals, and then decide what kind of visibility you need to achieve to reach them.

 18. 18. Step 4: Live Up to Your Own Brand .

Don't let your own brand leave others feeling disappointed. R eputation is a big part of branding.

Go the extra mile on team projects, give it your all on every assignment, and lend a hand when you n eed to. When others work with you, they will talk. Make sure they have nothing but positive things to say.

 19. 19. How Do I start to work for “Me”?
 20. 20. Quote

I am convinced that great achievements do NOT necessarily require extraordinary people or unusual talk or “luck”, but great achievement DOES require that we do our work faithfully, day by day.

- Phillip Humbert

 21. 21. Shareholders Wealth

In business, the primary goal is to build the business in order to increase shareholders wealth.

“ Me” Incorporated is also in business to build up its abilities, competence, personality, character, etc)

 26. 26. Leadership Mythology

Leadership is a rare ability only given to a few. Many still believe that leaders are born not made. Na lie!

Leaders are charismatic. Well, many leaders are but most are not!

The most senior, experienced or highest in position is the leader. True leadership is based on action, performance, ability and effectiveness

 27. 27. Leadership Mythology (contd.)

Effective leadership is based on control, coercion, and manipulation. A leader is someone you would follow to a place you would not go by yourself (Joel Barker).

Good leaders have more education than other people. When it comes to leadership, experience is the best teacher.

Notes de l'éditeur

 • Note for 2: In a leadership role, people skills are more important than technical skills. The best leaders are those who work towards a goal. Your Cause, your Purpose and your Mission in life will make you charismatic, not the other way round.
 • Do you know many people who would follow you?
