Local effects: they occur
due to the mass of the tumor
or its ulceration.They depend
on the location of the tumor.
Systemic symptoms: they
occur due to distant effects
of the cancer.These may
include: weight loss, fever,
being excessively tired, and
changes to the skin.

Chemicals: tobacco,
alcohol, benzene, asbestos.
Diet and exercise: Diet,
physical inactivity and
obesity are related to up to
30–35% of cancer deaths.
Hormones: oral
contraceptives increase the
risk of breast cancer.

Radiation: ionizing
(medical imaging) and non-
ionizing (UV radiation)
Infectious agents: viruses,
bacterias and parasites.
Heredity: caused by an
inherited genetic defect.
Less than 0.3% of the
population.

system to fight cancer
Transplantation: bone
marrow transplantation
and peripheal blood stem
