There is a section in the Occupational Health and Safety Act that states the safety regulations for Fire and Explosion hazards in the workplace. The first subsection of section 45 briefly states that when workers are around places of hazard near marine equipment the employer is responsible for instituting a series of tests and inspections to make sure it is safe to be around before any work starts. The second subsection briefly states that where ever hazardous vapors or liquids arise in the workplace there shall always be a means of ventilation to get rid of it. The final part of the Fire and explosion section states that where ever hazardous substances arise from material or epuipment, not the work process, all the potential sources of ignition have to be removed, controlled, or eliminated.
The first section of this presentation is about Fire. Fires are a big problem, in our country we have about 55 300 fire incidents and 337 deaths annually. Including about 1.42 billion dollars in damage from fire related incidents.
