Types of Diabetes

5. • Type 1 diabetes occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills
the beta cells of the pancreas. No, or very little, insulin is released into the
body.
• Usually diagnosed in childhood
• Patients with type 1 diabetes need insulin daily to survive.
Type 1 Diabetes

6. • Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body can’t
properly use the insulin that is released
• Rates rising due to increased obesity and failure
to exercise .

that occurs during pregnancy.
• Happens to women who give birth to children
over 9 Ibs.
• This type of diabetes usually happens during
pregnancy due to high blood sugar levels.
