  2. THINGS AROUND US • There are many things around us. There are two groups of things:
  3. Do you know the differences between living and non-living things?
  4. CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING THINGS Living things are things that are alive.
  5. Living things need water and food.
  6. Living things can breathe.
  7. Living things can grow.
  8. Living things can move.
  9. Living things can reproduce.
  10. An elephant is living thing.
  11. A plant is living thing.
  12. A person is living thing.
  13. NON-LIVING THINGS • Non-living things are things that are not alive. • Non-living things don't need water and food.
  14. Water and sun are non-living things.
  15. A telephone is non-living thing.
  16. VERTEBRATES AND INVERTEBRATES
  17. Animals are divided into two groups: VERTEBRATES AND INVERTEBRATES.
  18. • Vertebrates have a backbone and a skeleton.
  19. There are five classes of vertebrates: - MAMMALS - BIRDS - FISH - AMPHIBIANS - REPTILES
  20. INVERTEBRATES don’t have a skeleton.
  21. Arthropods and molluscs are invertebrates. A butterfly is an arthropod. A snail is a mollusc.
  22. MAMMALS
  23. Mammals have hair.
  24. Most mammals have four legs.
  25. Mammals have live babies. Baby mammals drink their mother's milk.
  26. Mammals breathe with their lungs.
  27. Mammals have a skeleton inside. They are vertebrates.
  28. Most mammals live on land.
  29. Some mammals live in the sea.
  30. BIRDS
  31. Birds have two legs, two wings and a beak.
  32. Birds have feathers. Most birds can fly.
  33. Birds are vertebrates. Birds lay eggs.
  34. REPTILES
  35. Reptiles are vertebrate animals.
  36. Reptiles have scales and some reptiles have a shell.
  37. Reptiles lay eggs.
  38. Reptiles breathe with their lungs.
  39. Some reptiles don't have legs and some have four legs.
  40. Reptiles are cold-blooded. COLD BLOOD
  41. AMPHIBIANS
  42. Amphibians live in water and on land.
  43. Amphibians lay eggs in the water.
  44. Amphibians are vertebrates.
  45. FISH
  46. Fish are vertebrates.
  47. Fish lay eggs in the water.
  48. Fish live in the water.
  49. Fish have scales and fins. SCALES FINS
  50. Fish breathe with their gills. GILLS
  51. Eels, sharks and sardines are fish.
  52. INSECTS
  53. Insects are invertebrates. They do not have a skeleton.
  54. Insects have three body parts: head, thorax and abdomen.
  55. Insects have six legs, and two antennae.
  56. Some insects have wings.
  57. Insects lay eggs.
  58. A butterfly, a cockroach, a mosquito and a ladybird are insects.
  59. Other invertebrates... These invertebrate animals are not insects. They do not have six legs. WORM SPIDER CENTIPEDE
