6. Why is Guy Fawkes Night so important
in England?
• Guy Fawkes is the person most associated with
the Gunpowder Plot to blow up James I ,the
Houses of Lords and Commons when James
opened Parliament on November 5th 1605.
8. Gunpowder Plot
• Fawkes and his group put 36 barrels of
gunpowder in cellars under the Houses of
Parliament in London, ready to set off a
massive explosion.
9. Why didn´t it work?
• A member of the group sent a letter to the
King to tell him of the plans.
• Guy Fawkes was arrested.
• He was hung, drawn and quartered.

11. How do we celebrate this day?
• Bonfires
• A statue of Guy Fawkes in burned in
every village/town/city.
• Lots of fireworks!
• We eat baked potatoes.
