What was the social action project you engaged in?
Evaluate the range of research methods used and how effective each was,
such as primary and secondary sources, quantitative and qualitative
research?
 The social action project that I engaged in was at first the Age Uk project but I then later
on had to change to the Youth crime project. Researching for youth crime was very
easy because of the amount of times it has happened and how many people it has
effected, gathering information about how many times a year it happens and how
much youth crime is increasing. Making surveys asking people what they think of youth
crime was needed because we had more of an idea of the opinions people actually
have on youth crime rather than ones online where it has been under valued.
Secondary research was very helpful when wanting to find out exact statistics of things
to do with youth crime such as how many people are effected by youth crime each
year and how the numbers of youth crime are rising dramatically giving me an insight
of how serious youth crime in todays society actually is and how many people are
effected by it that we did not even know about. One of the things I learned whilst
doing my research on youth crime is that the news does not even tell us or inform us
about even half of the things that go on with youth crime and how many times a year
it really does happen, down playing it to us at home so we would not know corrupted
our country really is. Going out into a place where youth crime is most common in our
area and asking them directly what they really think of youth crime, telling us stories
that they have witnessing and being involved in youth crime showed us; how real, how
traumatic and how much this really does effect the lives of people even if they aren’t
involved in It them selves.
Who was your audience?
Who was your client?
 Our audience was for people between the ages of 13-21 the reason behind this was
because this is the age group of people that tend to get involved in youth crime
or are the ones effected by youth crime, a way to show these people that being
involved in youth crime and gangs isn’t the easy way out in life and showing them
the struggles that come with being involved with people that are surrounding
them selves around people that are a bad influence upon them. Showing young
people that there are ways they can make a living without getting involved in
youth crime and also, that there is always a way out and that people will be there
for people who are struggling to find a way out of the life they once thought was
the easy way out, which is what many people involved usually don’t hear about
they don’t hear a lot of stories where people have made it out and now are living
a normal safe life. Most people are usually scared of the consequences of
coming out of a gang which makes them pressured to stay in longer than they
should do.
Did the audience meet your expectations? What did you think
they would be?
Did you meet theirs? What did they think?
 When talking to some of my audience people who have been involved or affected
by youth crime, the people who had been involved in youth crime did not have
any of the stereotypical traits that they are preserved to have most where very
open and when talking about why they did the things they did they all said
because of family and at the time they thought it was the easier way out. When
presenting my article to my audience they found it very useful that I had put ways
in which you can escape the life of youth crime and handy places such as youth
clubs to keep them selves busy, they were surprised with how many youth clubs
around there area have been put in place for people like them, it made them
realise that people do care and there are people out there that want people to
live a normal and safe life. I feel as though I have met their expectations by
finding ways in which they can use useful information on my double page spread
that they can use to try and help them selves, also, reading the article made
them realise how much youth crime does effect peoples lives.
Was the project successful?
What does success look like?
 I feel as though the project was successful and anything you do can help to
even stop one person getting involved or coming out of youth crime is
always going to be successful step by step if we carry on to help people
realise that they are making the wrong decision, the percentage of stabbing
and people getting involved with youth crime will start to go down, to try
and stop youth crime all together will be a long journey which will slowly
come together in the end, we need more people around the ages of 13-21
to come together and show the rest that being involved in youth crime will
only ruin your life and not make it any better. The smallest things make the
biggest difference whether that be just making a small article of youth crime
and ways to get out of it will teach people who are actually involve that
there are people out here that want to help them and that leaving that life is
the best choice even if they don’t think it is at the time. We need to make
young people realise that it is not ‘coo’ for people to be in gangs because
that is what some boys and girls think, they need to realise how much it is
effecting other peoples lives and how one quick action from them could ruin
someone's and their families whole lives.
