3. What are Beacons/iBeacons?
 Beacons are small location devices which use Bluetooth Low
Energy (BLE)
 iBeacons is Apple’s trademark for Beacons
 Beacons can be used for building location and context aware
applications for both iOS and Android
 The power of beacons is dependent on the apps that are
developed to use them. The beacon is only used to advertise its
location to inform the app of its proximity to a point of interest
 Beacons are GPS for indoor environments
 Beacons can be detected by apps within a range of 0 to 100 m

guided path to
