Briefly state the principle of NMR spectroscopy, and discuss why NMR is not a widely applied quantitative analysis instrument. Solution Principle of NMR : The basic principle on which NMR works that when an external magnetic field is applied then nuclei present in the atoms (which have spin and also electrically charged) gets promoted to a higher energy level at a wavelength that corresponds to radio frequencies. And when the spin returns to its ground level, energy is emitted at the same frequency. So, the signal that corresponds to this this transfer is measured and processed in order to yield an NMR spectrum for the nuclei. NMR is not a widely spread quantitative analysis instrument because : 1) sometimes, information got from higher molecular masses compound is much complex which is quite impossible to resolve. 2) it is a high cost technique ie the instrument cost is too high and furthermore it has high maintainance and high implementation cost. .
