1. Kights’
engagement
and wedding
In medieval age, knights could not choose their
wives freely. In general, marriages were concerted
between bride’s and groom’s families. Knights
could not married a woman that did not belong to a
noble family, she had to be a lady.
Often, fiancés did not know each other. They
met the first time for the wedding. Sometimes one
of them sent a painter because he/she wanted to
have a painting of his/her fiancé in order to know
what he/she was like.
The girls could get married really young, aged
13 or 14, however their husbands could be really
2. older than them, sometimes 10 or 20 years older. The
reason was that knights could not get married until
they finished their training and adventures. If
they were fighting in far countries, they could
spend years and years before coming back home.
Sometimes when knights or ladies became a widower
or a widow, they remarried with their sister-in-law
or brother-in-law, so they kept in the same family.
3. COMPROMISO Y BODA DE
LOS CABALLEROS
MEDIEVALES
familia.
