People's work effectiveness may decrease, as they will have to be suspicious of practically every message they receive. This may also seriously hamper social relationships within the organization, promoting the atmosphere of distrust.
Matthew Rosenquist's Understanding APT Threat Agent Characteristics is Key to Prioritizing Risks presentation at the 2015 Global APT Defense Summit in Los Angeles. Prioritizing risks is critical for any sustainable security capability. Understanding the abilities, methods, and objectives of advanced attackers is key in identifying the most critical vulnerabilities and the proper allocation of resources to manage risks.

As organizations assess the security of their information systems, the need for automation has become more and more apparent. Not only are organizations attempting to automate their assessments, the need is becoming more pressing to perform assessments centrally against large numbers of enterprise systems. Penetration testers can use this automation to make their post-exploitation efforts more thorough, repeatable, and efficient. Defenders need to understand the techniques attackers are using once an initial compromise has occurred so they can build defenses to stop the attacks. Microsoft's PowerShell scripting language has become the defacto standard for many organizations looking to perform this level of distributed automation. In this presentation James Tarala, of Enclave Security, will describe to students the enterprise capabilities PowerShell offers and show practical examples of how PowerShell can be used to perform large scale penetration tests of Microsoft Windows systems.
Technology Issues and Cybersecurity StrategiesJack Pringle
This document discusses technology issues and cybersecurity strategies. It emphasizes that security is a process, not a product, and involves people, policies, and technology working together. Some key strategies discussed are identifying sensitive data assets, implementing layered security through practices like strong passwords and security awareness training, and protecting data through encryption and access controls. The document also stresses preparing for incidents through testing response plans and having cyberinsurance.
The document discusses the human-centered design approach to data as a service. It emphasizes engaging with communities to understand local contexts and involving stakeholders throughout the research process. The presentation outlines steps for responsible research, including obtaining ethics approval, engaging gatekeepers, sensitizing researchers to cultural practices, and documenting engagement activities. It also discusses challenges around community research fatigue and ensuring information meets recipient needs in terms of being the right information, at the right time, for the right purpose.

2015 Global APT Summit - Understanding APT threat agent characteristics is ke...Matthew Rosenquist
APT attacks originate from people, against a specific target, for an explicit malicious purpose. Attempting to protect all assets from every type of attack is not reasonable or sustainable. Understanding the archetypes of Threat Agents is key to an effective defense. Knowing the capabilities, objectives, and most likely methods of APTs targeting your organization provides predictive insights to where prevention, detection, and response tools and processes will have maximum impact. Such analysis complements the traditional vulnerability management structures which look generically for weaknesses.
The document discusses recent trends in information technology. It begins by introducing the author, Anwar Fathalla Ahmed, and his background working in information security.
It then outlines some of the key concepts in information security, including defining security, the components that make up an information system, and how to balance security and access. Critical characteristics of information are discussed, such as availability, accuracy, and confidentiality. Models for conceptualizing the security of an information system are presented.

How Your DRAM Becomes a Security Problemmark-smith
Since our attack methodology targets the DRAM, it is mostly independent of software flaws, operating system, virtualization technology and even CPU. The attack is based on the presence of a row buffer in all DRAM modules. While this buffer is of vital importance to the way DRAM works physically, they also provide an attack surface for a side channel attack.

For the full video of this presentation, please visit: https://www.edge-ai-vision.com/2024/06/temporal-event-neural-networks-a-more-efficient-alternative-to-the-transformer-a-presentation-from-brainchip/
Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.

Digital Banking in the Cloud: How Citizens Bank Unlocked Their MainframePrecisely
Inconsistent user experience and siloed data, high costs, and changing customer expectations – Citizens Bank was experiencing these challenges while it was attempting to deliver a superior digital banking experience for its clients. Its core banking applications run on the mainframe and Citizens was using legacy utilities to get the critical mainframe data to feed customer-facing channels, like call centers, web, and mobile. Ultimately, this led to higher operating costs (MIPS), delayed response times, and longer time to market.
Ever-changing customer expectations demand more modern digital experiences, and the bank needed to find a solution that could provide real-time data to its customer channels with low latency and operating costs. Join this session to learn how Citizens is leveraging Precisely to replicate mainframe data to its customer channels and deliver on their “modern digital bank” experiences.
