Women's Fashion in the Victorian Era By: Hannah Miles and Marnee Kirkpatrick
Dress Lenghth The longer a woman's dress was, was the indication of how old she was. Unlike people today, these ladies wanted to wear longer skirts or dresses.
Pale Skin...Is Sexy? Back in the Victorian Era, to be pale was considered attractive because it meant that you didn't have to work in the fields to make a living. To become more pale, women could avoid fresh air or drink vinegar.
Hair Hair styles for women were typically very long. They hardly ever got their hair cut, unless they had gotten lice.
Cosmetics For a woman to wear make-up, apart from the actresses, was wrong. They had bare faces, but some occasionally wore a small amount of blush.
Clothing *Victorian era fashion had many layers! 1866- Princess Dress- cut from one piece with other pieces sewn on to give a woman shape 1867 to 1875 - Soft Bustle Silhouette - the behind of a woman was puffed out 1878 - Curaisse Bodice - form fitted with a train in the back, trailing from behind
1883 - Hard Bustle - more flat front, still very large behind
