Havlíčkův Brod is a town in the Czech Republic with a population of around 25,000 people. It was first mentioned in 1234 as a village near silver mines. Originally called Německý Brod, it was renamed in 1945 after journalist and writer Karel Havlíček Borovský. The town has partnerships with cities in Austria, the Netherlands, and Slovakia. The Havlíčkův Brod Grammar School was established in 1735 and educated notable former students like Josef Dobrovský and Bedřich Smetana.
