Apache Solr makes it so easy to interactively visualize and explore your data. Create a dashboard, add some facets, select some values, cross it with the time and just look at the results. Apache Spark is the growing framework for performing streaming computations, which makes it ideal for real time indexing. Solr also comes with new Analytics Facets which are a major weapon added to the arsenal of the data explorer. They bring another dimension: calculations. We can now do the equivalent of SQL, just in a much simpler and faster way. These calculations can operate over buckets of data.

Open up your user base to the data! Contrary to programming and SQL, almost everybody knows how to search. This talk describes through an interactive demo based on open source Hue how users can graphically search their data in Hadoop. The underlying technical details of the application and its interaction with Apache Solr will be clarified. The session will detail how to get started with data indexing in just a few clicks as well as explore several data analysis scenarios with the latest Solr Analytics Facets and Spark Streaming. Through a Web browser, attendees will be shown how to explore and visualize data for quick answers. The search dashboard in Hue, with its draggable charts and dynamic interface, lets any non-technical user look for documents or patterns. Attendees of this talk will learn how to get started with interactive search visualization in their Solr cluster.

The presentation uses an example and explanation from Chapter 13 in my book, Ansible for DevOps: https://www.ansiblefordevops.com Make sure you never commit a broken playbook using Molecule, Ansible, and GitHub Actions. Jeff Geerling discusses his CI workflows using GitHub Actions to manage hundreds of Ansible-based projects, including playbooks, roles, collections, and even Kubernetes Operators. Learn how Molecule makes developing and testing Ansible content easier, and how you can integrate it with GitHub Actions—or any other CI environment—for easy Ansible CI.

AWS offers a number of services that help you easily deploy and run applications in the cloud. Come to this session to learn how to choose among these options. Through interactive demonstrations, this session shows you how to get an application running using AWS OpsWorks and AWS Elastic Beanstalk application management services. You also learn how to use AWS CloudFormation templates to document, version control, and share your application configuration. This session covers application updates, customization, and working with resources such as load balancers and databases.

KSUG ScalaJS: Yet another what… ? It’s tempting to write your whole web application in one and only programming language, especially when this is yours language-of-choice. That’s the reason why Node.js got so much traction in the last years - JavaScript is the part of the web stack which will stay there, whether we like it or not. In the world of languages compiled/transpiled to it, there is ScalaJS that is trying to keep its head above water and gain some popularity. Let’s take a look and try to evaluate if it’s worth our time to try it.

In this talk, you’ll learn how you can use the AWS CLI to automate common administrative tasks in AWS. We’ll cover several scenarios including EBS snapshot management and S3 backups and see how to combine AWS CLI features to create powerful tools for automation. You’ll see how to develop, debug, and deploy these examples in several live, end to end examples.

For both new and experienced users of the AWS SDK for PHP, we highlight features of the SDK as we work through building a simple, scalable PHP application. Attendees will learn about core features of the SDK including service clients, iterators, and waiters. We will also introduce new features in the upcoming Version 3 of the SDK, including asynchronous requests, paginators, and the new JMESPath result querying syntax.

In this session, we'll discuss: - What’s Apache Camel: An overview of Camel and what you use it for and why you should care. - Camel 3: Demos of how Camel 3, Camel K and Camel Quarkus all work together, and will provide insights into Camel’s role in the next major release of Red Hat Integration products. - Camel K: This serverless integration platform provides low-code/no-code capabilities, where integrations can be snapped together quickly using the powers from integration patterns and Camel’s extensive set of connectors. - Camel Quarkus: Using Knative (the fast runtime of Quarkus) and Camel K brings awesome serverless features, such as auto-scaling, scaling to zero, and event-based communication, with great integration capabilities from Apache Camel. You will also hear about the latest Camel sub-project Camel Kafka Connectors which makes it possible to use all the Camel components as Kafka Connect connectors. Finally we bring details of the roadmap for what is coming up in the Camel projects. And after the presentation we have about 30 minutes of QA answering all the questions from the audience.

In the thrilling conclusion to 2023, ransomware groups had a banner year, really outdoing themselves in the "make everyone's life miserable" department. LockBit 3.0 took gold in the hacking olympics, followed by the plucky upstarts Clop and ALPHV/BlackCat. Apparently, 48% of organizations were feeling left out and decided to get in on the cyber attack action. Business services won the "most likely to get digitally mugged" award, with education and retail nipping at their heels. Hackers expanded their repertoire beyond boring old encryption to the much more exciting world of extortion. The US, UK and Canada took top honors in the "countries most likely to pay up" category. Bitcoins were the currency of choice for discerning hackers, because who doesn't love untraceable money?

Dubai, often portrayed as a shimmering oasis in the desert, faces its own set of challenges, including the occasional threat of flooding. Despite its reputation for opulence and modernity, the emirate is not immune to the forces of nature. In recent years, Dubai has experienced sporadic but significant floods, testing the resilience of its infrastructure and communities. Among the critical lifelines in this bustling metropolis is the Dubai International Airport, a bustling hub that connects the city to the world. This article explores the intersection of Dubai flood events and the resilience demonstrated by the Dubai International Airport in the face of such challenges.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. About authorWith two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Corporate and higher education. Two industries that, in the past, have had a clear divide with very little crossover. The difference in goals, learning styles and objectives paved the way for differing learning technologies platforms to evolve. Now, those stark lines are blurring as both sides are discovering they have content that’s relevant to the other. Join Tammy Rutherford as she walks through the pros and cons of corporate and higher ed collaborating. And the challenges of these different technology platforms working together for a brighter future.

When you’re building (micro)services, you have lots of framework options. Spring Boot is no doubt a popular choice. But there’s more! Take Quarkus, a framework that’s considered the rising star for Kubernetes-native Java. It always depends on what's best for your situation, but how to choose the best solution if you're comparing 2 frameworks? Both Spring Boot and Quarkus have their positives and negatives. Let us compare the two by live coding a couple of common use cases in Spring Boot and Quarkus. After this talk, you’ll be ready to get started with Quarkus yourself, and know when to select Quarkus or Spring Boot.
