2. Benefits of using Open Educational Resources
1. Many resources are available for everyone to use. There are many materials you
need to create extraordinary lessons for easier comprehension.
2. OER saves time. Rather then taking hours and hours to build aesthetically appeasing
presentations for your lesson plans for your students. Someone has done what you
need and was willing to share!
3. Free education forYOU! Not only are there materials for you to create lessons plans.
But there is material for you to update your own knowledge.
4. Gives you the opportunity to share. When you think you have created the most
brilliant lesson plan. Now you can share your glory with others.
5. The most important benefit is that it is free. All you have to do is give the correct
attribution to the person from whom you are using the materials.
3. Challenges of using Open Educational Resources
1. OER can be time consuming. If you want very specific material to insert into your
lesson plan it could be hard to find.
2. Properly attribution the author of the material. Some authors are specific on what
you can and can not do with their material. So it may take time to ensure that you
properly attributed the material.
3. There is no incentive to share your work with other professionals. (Of course my
incentive is to make another persons life just a little bit easier )
4. There is no review of lesson plans, or peoples work to ensure that their work is
actually theirs and not being plagiarized.
5. Quality work could be changed to the point where it has lost its original intent.
