1. THE GREAT PODCAST RESURGENCE
AND THE REBIRTH OF RADIO

7. An “old” digital medium has reinvented
itself. More than 10 years ago: high
hassle factor, only for the hardcore
geeks. Could not crack drivetime.
8. Platform and technological changes propelled podcasting
into the mainstream. Here are seven reasons why:
1. Bluetooth audio
2. Bandwidth
3. Better content
4. Smartphones
5. Dedicated apps
6. Connected car OSes
7. The fitness revolution
INTO THE MAINSTREAM
10. Podcasting presents both formidable competition and a
wonderful opportunity for radio. In fact radio has a
competitive advantage over all other mediums and the
podcasting revolution is there for the taking. Local radio is
currently doing a poor job and not yet woken up to the
opportunity, largely viewing podcasting as an extension or
duplication as opposed to a medium in its own right.
RADIO 2.0
11. Radio can “own” the podcasting revolution. It has
the heritage, competitive advantage and existing
platforms to cross-promote new podcast mediums.
But also new opportunities for non-radio media, as
now the “broadcast” barrier to entry has plummeted.
END OR REBIRTH?
12. BUSINESS MODEL
Podcast digital revenue models will work
because the advertising model is directly
translatable. This is unlike struggling online
publishers from the print world who face
multiple challenges, including a poorly
adapted advertising model (the banner) and
massive competition from likes of Google
and Facebook for the digital marketing pie.
