American Place Theatre combines
education, literature, and theatre to
produce a multi-layered experience for
youth.

3.  Its performance-based literacy program,
known as Literature for Life, develops staged
readings of notable works so that students
obtain a better appreciation for books and
their themes. In existence for nearly half a
century, the American Place Theatre has won
more than 30 Obie awards.
Among the programs run by the American
Place Theatre is Professional Development for
Educators. Teachers, administrators, and other
professionals can learn how to bring the lessons
of Literature for Life into their own classrooms.

4.  American Place Theatre will teach them
how to turn reading into a more interactive
experience that inspires critical thinking and
discussion. During these sessions, attendees
also learn about building trust and
cooperation in groups, as well as the ways
in which theatre can cut across cultural
boundaries and unite people in
