NOSQL are often limited in the type of queries that they can support due to the distributed nature of the data. In this session we would learn patterns on how we can overcome this limitation and combine multiple query semantics with NoSQL based engines. We will demonstrate specifically a combination of key/value, SQL like, Document model and Graph based queries as well as more advanced topic such as handling partial update and query through projection. Presented at the 12th ACM Workshop on Hot Topics in Networks (HotNets XII) Datacenters have traditionally been a collection of individual servers, each of which aggregates a fixed amount of compute, memory, storage, and network resources as an independent physical entity. Extrapolating from recent trends, we envisage that future datacenters will be architected in a drastically different manner: all computational resources within a server will be disaggregated into standalone blades, and the datacenter network will directly interconnect them. This is what we call "Disaggregated Datacenters". This presentation briefly sketches why and how this transition will happen. In particular, we focus on the role of network fabric in such disaggregated datacenters, as it will face a set of challenges brought by the new datacenter architecture. Git is a version control system. We can look at it from that high level. Git is a content tracking system. Some teachers advise us to look at it from that lowered elevation. But I will take you to the very bottom. The floor. The code. The algorithms. The directed acyclic graph of hashed bit sequences made efficient through LZW compression and deferred garbage collection determined by node reachability via hash relationships. “But why?”, you may ask. “Why go this deep?”" Git is a tool that works so well for so many. It mystically corrects anticipated `merge` conflicts. It’s “where did code come from” results from `blame` are impressive. The ability to re-write history through `rebase` is awesome. The globally unique identifier nature of a hash-produced ref is revolutionary. Uber-geeks are magic-slayers. We want and need to know precisely how things work. Like a hard 50 push-up workout, this study will make working with Git at the daily developer level a fraction of the effort — like a mere ten push-ups. In BC’s nearly-decade-old “new” curriculum, the curricular competencies describe the processes that students are expected to develop in areas of learning such as mathematics. They reflect the “Do” in the “Know-Do-Understand” model. Under the “Communicating” header falls the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions.” Note that it contains two processes: “Explain mathematical ideas” and “Justify mathematical decisions.” I have broken it down into its separate parts in order to understand--or reveal--its meaning. The first part is commonplace in classrooms. By now, BC math teachers—and students—understand that “Explain mathematical ideas” means more than “Show your work.” Teachers consistently ask “What did you do?” and “How do you know?” This process is about retelling, not just of steps but of thinking. The second part happens less frequently. Think back to the last time that you observed a student make—a necessary precursor to justify—a mathematical decision. “Justify” is about defending. Like “explain,” it involves reasoning; unlike “explain,” it also involves opinion and debate. In order to reinterpret the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions,” I will continue to take apart its constituent part “Justify mathematical decisions” and carefully examine the term “mathematical decisions.” What, exactly, is a “mathematical decision”? Below, I will categorize answers to this question. These categories, and the provided examples, may help to suggest new opportunities for students to justify.
