This is what we picked up on the kick-off workshop, and what the innovation ecosystem provides and can provide at the moment.
I summarized the needs that we came up with at the kick-off, and organized them into delivery blocks. Using these needs and wishes, I created and tailored a virtual team environment, all of the points included here can be solved digitally in one way or another.
As you can see, we touched upon the subject of innovation management and potential softwares that could help us to organize idea generation and innovation efforts within the centre of excellence.

What is innovation management? As to any subject there are many definitions
It is about ”developing and launching new products, services, technologies, concepts or processes to the market in a way that maximizes the organization’s idea generation and innovation potential.” (Hedin, Hirvensalo , and Vaarnas, 2011) The Handbook of Market Intelligence: Understand, Compete and Grow in Global MarketsInnovation management brings together collaboration and social software, with a clear focus on generating results and developing a culture of knowledge sharing and innovation. (Brightidea, 2016)
These and the papers on innovation management is what I’ve had in my mind when I created the first version of a innovation management platform.
Today I will show you this platform, what information we’ve gathered so far and how you as a RIT-member can get access, use, contribute and develop this platform.
I will explain what values it can provide to its users and also a vision for its future potential.
So now that we’ve got an environment which we can control and shape the way we want to, we’ll be able to provide the means for collaboration.
But how do we incite the creation of new ideas centered around the problems of the space industry?
Today there are many different companies working with creating optimized processes for idea generation and innovation management. (I’ve been looking through leading organizations and papers regarding the subject)
The most important part to start with is the strategic innovation area, which is the ground base for any innovation initiative – by now we have already aligned ourselves around space, but what we need to think about is where we want to specialize – what should be our strategic innovation areas? Where are we able to provide expertise and infrastructure that outmatch other research providers?
((To this we have Reza’s excellent suggestion of a nische – small satellites as an end-to-end service from development to launch, which could be a capacity that would be highly competitive globally and something that could be, as I understood, developed in the next few years.))
((But are there other areas where we would be able to provide unique products, services and processes? This is something we need to think about.))
Around these strategic innovation areas we create Idea campaigns based on problems. By unleashing the innovative power of the university and our interested SMEs, ideas are created. LTU Business already offers so called ”innovation factories” and this could be something that we can incorporate for incited idea generation. The ideas are evaluated (VEM?) – and the perfect evaluator is the centre of excellence. Concepts are created which then are ready for going into an innovation project – where a team is assembled based on the originator of the idea and their wishes, be it a student from the academy, LTU-staff or an SME.
For those wanting to submit their ideas openly, contributions the each others ideas would be incited, as to get as good quality of the ideas as possible.
The digital platform would in theory allow us to easily connect with any one in the world, which means we could easily connect to other universities . The innovation factories could potentially be livestreamed for full effect
– with digital comes a world of possibilities which could provide huge benefits for the members of the centre of excellence, LTU and Kiruna.
