Uses and Gratification Theory

My magazine will have articles that the audience can relate to
(gig reviews), that they can use for knowledge or articles they
can be informed about( gigs or events relating to rock). This will
cater for the audience needs (uses and gratification) by doing
what the audience would look for in a rock magazine.
Therefore to get this information into my magazine I will apply
this to my magazine to make my audience happy and therefore
lead to repeat purchase. I will apply this by putting information
in my articles about bands which caters for the knowledge need
that the audience want in a magazine. I will also have a lot of
articles with gig reviews and gig advertisement to increase the
rock community which is also uses and gratification.
Knowledge
Magazines usually have a lot of knowledge in them
which reader enjoy because it increases the knowledge
of he genre of music that he magazine writes about.
This gratifies the audience in the way they read the
magazine. Not only in a recreational way but also in a
learning way. By increasing there knowledge of rock
music this build there enjoyment of it.
Gig Reviews & Gig Advertisement
The genre of Rock is mostly revolved around Gigs
.Many rock fans go to gigs to join the community of
people who enjoy the music. When people join the
community they feel part of something and enjoy
the feeling. Therefore when gigs are advertised they
relate the “being part of something” feeling to the
magazine that recommended it. Gig reviews also
mostly talk about gigs in a positive light expressing
the existent and joy that people get in attending
them. Therefore people feel the need to go to one
and join the community of “Rockers”.
Application to a real content page
This is a content page which uses many of the uses
and gratification theories to make it attractive to the
target audience. For example as explained earlier on
this content page advertises album and gig reviews
which is something that the audience can relate to
and therefore it very attractive since the audience
can form a relationship between the reader and the
magazine. It also feature many rock bands which are
widely known in the rock community therefore it
will attract rock fans to the magazine because the
like to see what there rock idols are up to. The
magazine also generally advertises various events
which the reader can attend to join the rock
community, this makes the readers feel part of
something and therefore will be driven to attend the
community event to meet another people who share
the same interests etc.…
