1. Soccer Lesson: Passing and Goal Kicks
Equipment: 8 soccer balls, 16 cones, 15 jump ropes, ample activity space
Warm Up: Students will jump rope for 1 minute periods 5 times. Than will complete a warm up
of 10 jumping jacks, 10 burpees, high knees for 30 seconds, kick backs for 30 seconds, walking
lunges and 10 push-ups. Stretching of biceps, triceps, hamstrings, quads and calves will take
place.
Content: Go over quickly basic principles of passing. Plant one foot outside of the ball, use
inside of the foot to kick ball, move leg in pendulum motion, follow through straight to partner.
Have students pass to partner 30 times. Next, find a group of 4. One ball per group. Going to
pass to partner and go behind them for 2 minutes. Show demonstration. Last passing drill.
Form a square with the group of 4. Pass to the person to the right. After you pass, run to the
right to the person you passed it too. That will be your new spot. Every time you pass you
follow your pass. Do this for 3 minutes.
Content: Go over basic principles of a goal kick. Rapid continuous approach to the ball, a leap
immediately prior to ball contact, non-kicking foot places even with ball, kicks ball with
shoelaces. Cones set up to resemble goal distance. Students in pairs. One student takes 10 goal
kicks using proper form. One student retrieves the ball, then switch. Next drill: Student one
passes to student two who kicks into goal. Do this 5 times than switch 3 times.
Cool Down: Slow jog 3 laps around gym. Stretch out major muscle groups: biceps, triceps,
hamstrings, quads, calves.
