This document discusses personal health data and its potential uses and challenges. It summarizes that personal health data can produce knowledge, inspire change, and impact research, health care, and policy for individuals and communities. However, there are also challenges around privacy, anonymity, ownership, unequal access and representation. The author is starting a new network funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to bring together innovators to address these challenges and catalyze using personal data for public benefit.
