Muscle tissues are specialized for contraction and come in three main types: skeletal muscle which is striated, voluntary and attached to bones; cardiac muscle which is striated, involuntary and found in the heart; and smooth muscle which is non-striated, involuntary and found in hollow organs. Neural tissues function to conduct electrical impulses and are made up of neurons, which transmit signals through dendrites, cell bodies and axons using synapses, as well as neuroglia, which support and insulate neurons.
