1. • Marx stated that: Religion is the opium of
the people.
• Religion is an ideology , it keeps people
happy. This ideology comes from a higher
plain it makes the proletariat happy. It
increases their self esteem.
2. Hegemony Ideology
• Hegemony is a term first used in it’s
current sense by the Italian Marxist
Gramsci who realised that the ruling class
in any society not only have great
economic power at their disposal but can
also exercise an ideological control over
the culture itself through the ‘Texts’ of that
culture.
3. “How the dominant ideology is accepted by the people.”
“ That process whereby the subordinate are led to consent to view the
social system and it’s everyday embodiments as ‘common sense’ , the
self evidently natural” (John Fiske)
4. Genesis 3
God said that woman shall always bear children in
intense pain, and that "man shall be your master".
5. . All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colours,
The rich man in his castle,
The poor man at his gate,
God made them, high or lowly,
And order'd their estate.
. The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,−
He made them every one:
. He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell,
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.
6. • Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the feast of Stephen
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel
When a poor man came in sight
Gath'ring winter fuel
"Hither, page, and stand by me
If thou know'st it, telling
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?"
"Sire, he lives a good league hence
Underneath the mountain
Right against the forest fence
By Saint Agnes' fountain."
•
In his master's steps he trod
Where the snow lay dinted
Heat was in the very sod
Which the Saint had printed
Therefore, Christian men, be sure
Wealth or rank possessing
Ye who now will bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing
"Sire, the night is darker now
And the wind blows stronger
Fails my heart, I know not how,
I can go no longer."
"Mark my footsteps, my good
page
Tread thou in them boldly
Thou shalt find the winter's rage
Freeze thy blood less coldly."
