The internet has led to:
- The disintegration of traditional knowledge centers
- The socialization of the creation of knowledge
Thanks to internet:
- Remote access to dictionaries and
databases
- Multiple query options
- Regular data update
- Possibility of query modules
4. 2. Our main goals
Dictionary self-assessment tool that
promotes terminological knowledge
and contribution
Terminological
knowledge
acquisition
Partnership
and engagement
Dictionary self-
assessment
Contribution to a
public terminological
database
Improvement
of terminological
information use
5. Wiktionary: Collaborative lexicography
- Community of non-lexicographers
users
- Data import + Personal
with later revisions contributions
- Mainly: basic lexicon +
neologisms
- Very varied information
- Wide range of potential users
- Small overlap with other lexicons
(Meyer and Gurevych 2012)

DICTIONARY

A dictionary, as an organized set of terms, meets
some methodological requirements:
In a dictionary,
methodological quality
is synonymous
with content quality.
- to be mounted on a solid structure;
- to follow a consistent and known pattern;
- to be flexible but rigorously codified;
- to accept different levels of interpretation, according to
user skills and needs.
7. (A) Dictionary as a whole
- External conditions (repository, sources)
- General features (structure of concepts, equivalent designations)
(B) Designations and equivalent designations
- Representation (order, feminine forms)
- Lexical category (verb types, plural nouns)
- Abbreviations
(C) Definition
- Formal features (one sentence, avoiding synonymy)
- Syntax (syntactic equivalents, noun arguments)
- Semantics (broad meaning, prioritization)
The user also follows a progressive
path in the learning of methodology
A dictionary analysis must follow a
progressive path, from what it is
more general to the core of the
dictionary itself.
4. TermTest conception
8. Technological tool: Typeform
Versions: Catalan, Spanish, English
Basis: Verifiable and generally accepted
criteria
Macro-structure: 3 blocks of 25 questions
(Overall view, Designations, Definition)
Micro-structure: Binary questions, Help,
Answer options
Final result: Points + Evaluation + Full text
+ Sending a sample of dictionary (Catalan)
7 possible evaluations: Excellent, Very
good, Good, Satisfactory, Barely okay,
Unsatisfactory, Poor
5. TermTest design
24. 7. Conclusions
In the information society users are
not only consumers but also
creators (prosumers)
- Online evaluation
- Empowerment
- Possibility of contributing to a public
data bank with its own data (Catalan)
Methodological quality implies content quality: an appropriate methodology
results in a good dictionary.
Expert users become demanding and creative users; learning to evaluate implies
learning to create.
Present and future challenges
- Improvement of TermTest with the contribution of users
- A more interactive test, in order to obtain the user’s point of view in the
same communication channel
- A real integration of external dictionaries to Cercaterm, in case the test
result satisfaying
- Creation of a version able of evaluating dictionaries without human
intervention
