2. Hewlett – Packard always comes up with nice laptops.
They have a laptop for just about every niche user, but
have never made a mainstream gaming laptop.
The Pavilion dv6 is a powerful laptop that isn’t marketed
as a gaming laptop, but performs like one.
You can sell your laptop for this one if you want HP’s
quality construction. Will it be enough for you? Let’s find
out.
3. Looks
In terms of looks, the Pavilion dv6 looks like the other Pavilion
laptops of HP. It’s simple but not elegant. It’s not generic, but it
doesn’t look premium either. It sits perfectly in the middle of
bland and exciting.
HP gets points in the actual body though, because it’s made of
aluminum. You can be sure that the laptop doesn’t feel cheap
when you hold it in your hands.
The laptop weighs 5.78 pounds, which is really nice considering
the performance. It’s also 1.22 inches thick, giving the laptop a
very compact feel.
4. Display
As the title says, this laptop is powerful and packs plenty of
premium features for a very decent price. This laptop has a 15.6
inch screen with 1080p HD resolution. You can cram more stuff
into the screen as you’d like!
Everything else looks sharp and amazing with this laptop. You
also get a matte coating for the screen. Glossy screens are
getting a bad rep due to annoying glare, and matte screens
take care of that problem. You won’t lose any brightness at all –
just the glare. Yay!
5. Hardware
Let’s get into the meat of the laptop – the one that sells this
laptop.
To start off the list, you are given a third – generation Intel Core
i7 processor. It’s significantly improved over the previous
versions, and you can be sure that everything feels snappy and
smooth.
6. For graphics, you’ll be very impressed. The dv6 has an NVIDIA
GeForce GT 650M with a new architecture called Kepler. It’s a
new product of NVIDIA, and you can rest assured that the video
card is powerful. The 650M is also found in other gaming laptops,
such as the ones by Alienware.
In terms of RAM, you get plenty. The basic model starts with 8 GB
of RAM which is actually more than enough for everyday use.
You can bump it up to 16 GB if you need more push.
You get to choose between a solid state drive and a hard disk
drive for storage options. I recommend that you stick with the
solid state drive, because it offers better performance.
7. Other Features
The dv6 also has the usual array of features. You get two USB 2.0
ports, and two USB 3.0 ports. There’s also an optical drive, Wi-Fi
and Bluetooth.
8. Conclusion
With a starting price of 1,150 bucks, you get plenty of amazing
features already. If you have more cash though, you can
upgrade everything to maximum and you’ll end up with a
couple of hundred dollars more.
This laptop is unexpectedly powerful and relatively affordable. It
makes a decent gaming laptop, and an even better all –
around laptop
