9. To Conclude: After thoroughly analysing all 3 of my texts, I have came to the conlusion that the representation of women has progressed over time, both as a result of various feminist movements and changes in society.. It is fair to say that women are represented 'differently' over various decades, and the portrayal isn't always favourable but it is necessary to consider that this is due to the fact that films reflect the values and morals which are evident in society at the time of production. All 3 films present women as being liberated and living to please themselves. The negative portrayal generally comes from the dependancy women display on men, although, throughout the decades, it is evident that the dependancy on men has served different uses. Since the beginning of the romantic comedy genre, women have relied on men for one reason or another, whether it be for money, love or advice. In a way, it seems as if women have been in control all along, using men for their own uses... Romantic comedies continue to be conventional, to follow the same formula... in my opinion the representation of women will only become stronger, as society changes and women possess more power.
