He dropped anchor near Cape Hatteras, thinking he had accomplished his task. He thought that the Albemarle Sound was the Pacific Ocean

6. Henry Hudson-from England, sailed for Netherlands. Sailed up a river into present day New York, named the river the Hudson. On Hudson’s second trip he sailed for England and sailed further north into Canada and found a bay, named it Hudson Bay.
7. French Fur Trading Posts French traders made agreements with Native Americans and a fur trading post was set up by Samuel de Champlain in what is now Quebec.

9. Dutch Settlements The Dutch with their large fleet of trading ships set up trading colonies in the new world. There were posts set up in the area explored by Henry Hudson. The center of the Dutch colony was New Amsterdam which was an excellent trading port, located at the mouth of the Hudson River and the Atlantic Ocean. Today we call this New York City.
