UOIT has experienced rapid growth since opening in 2003, growing from 947 students to over 6,500 currently. To accommodate continued growth, UOIT is undertaking a major expansion of its downtown Oshawa campus through 2020. Phase 1 involved renovating existing buildings for education facilities and attracted over 300 students downtown. Phase 2 will add over 100,000 square feet of new and renovated space for additional programs and over 1,000 students. This expansion is revitalizing downtown Oshawa through job creation, repurposing unused space, and partnerships with local businesses. Phase 3 plans call for further downtown expansion starting in 2012.
